"So you're okay now?" Kaela squealed smiling like a lunatic. I had be AWOL all day with Luke and now we were back at her house with pizza, ice cream and popcorn in between us.
"Yes Kaela we're fine, he just had to help his mum out," I said blushing.
"I told you there was an explanation!" she smiled.
"Yeah for once you were right!" I laughed as she hit me pretending to be offended.
"Hey I'm right about quite a few things!" she said. I laughed at her obviously annoyed and offended tone.
"Name one thing." I saw her face instantly crumple into thought.
"There was that on- no actually that was you," she stopped herself, continuing to think. "I have been right before okay?!" she said trying to think. "OH! I got it! I bet you that before the end of the year you would like one of the new boys and now you do! I'm right! You like Luke! And you do like the others I know you do, you just don't want to open up to them," she replied smiling like she had won the lottery. I guess she was right. Slowly I was falling for Luke and his stupid antics, silly babbling, amazing hugs and the way we could talk about nothing.
"Okay you might have been right about that but you're not right about much," I stated smiling.
As we continued our pointless, jokey arguments my phone rang. I looked down at the caller ID and was shocked when I saw who it was. Jess. I hadn't been at work, simply because I hadn't been told that I had shifts. But I guess that was about to change.
"Jess?" I asked my co-worker.
"Hollie I need you to do me a favor," she said quickly down the phone.
"Um okay? Is this to do with work? Do I even still work there?" I questioned.
"Yeah you do, we've just had newbies in but today is everyone's day off and I have this date with this really cute new guy, I really wanna go but I have no one to cover me and I thought you haven't worked in a while and maybe needed money? You'd be doing me a massive massive favor." I could tell this meant a lot to her and I didn't have anything other than doing nothing with Kaela planned.
"Okay, Jess I'll come in and help out," I agreed. I heard her let out a loud sigh and I could just imagine her dark eyes shutting in happiness.
"Thank you so so much Hollie this really means the world! I've kinda missed having you around," she started but I stopped her.
"Don't start playing nice now Jess, I'm already doing it, no need for ass kissing. I'll be there in 15," I said.
"Alright I'll be waiting with the keys," she replied before hanging up abruptly.
"I'm sorry Kae I have to go to work and cover for Jess," I explained the situation and Kaela decided she'd join me and sit down, making it look like we constantly had business and so I had someone to talk to.
"Thank you again for doing this Hollie," Jess muttered as she gathered her work clothes together and started for the door.
"It's okay. So who is this amazing new guy taking you on a date?" I ask, curious as to who would take the hyperactive girl out. But nothing could have prepared me for what she replied.
(Play remembering Sunday by all time low or amnesia now)
"Ashton Irwin," she spoke quickly, normal people probably wouldn't have even heard her but I did. The name rung through my ears like church bells and I felt my heart sink and my breathing falter.
"Hollie?!" Kaela shook me out of my trance. "Are you okay?" she asked looking at my shocked, pained appearance.
"I-I can't b-breathe," I stuttered. I tried to explain to myself that I never dated Ashton and I was kind of with Luke now but that didn't stop it hurting like a bitch.
"It's okay, just, get focused in work yeah?" she suggested I nodded and turned around, waking towards the counter. But I was numb inside, there was no way I could forget what I had just heard, and I didn't know why. I tried to think of Luke and what we had, and how I had left Ashton on the beach and hadn't spoken to him since. I tried to convince myself I didn't care. But not even Kaela believed my act.
Having to do Jess's work, knowing she was out with my Ashton, I mean Ashton, hurt and I hated it but I tried to get consumed into that rather than my thoughts.
"Hello what can I get you today?" I asked the new customer without looking up at them.
"Well I'll have a hot chocolate and a cranberry muffin please," a familiar American accent called. I hissed as I looked up at Milly. I typed in the prices.
"That would be $7.45 please," I said turning around to make the hot chocolate. She slammed the money down on the side and I instantly knew she had come here for a reason, whatever that might be. "There you go," I said, handing her the hot chocolate.
"You didn't spit in it did you? I mean you are an animal," she laughed evilly before taking the muffin and the hot chocolate and sitting down at the table right in front of me.
"What do you want?" I snapped, stepping out from behind the work space.
"I already told you," she smiled sarcastically.
"You know that's not what I meant bitch," I snapped at her. She looked taken aback by my comment but a second later she returned back to the ice queen I knew and hated.
"I came here to tell you to stay away from Luke," she said. I almost choked I laughed that hard.
"You can't tell me what I can and can't do and who I can't hang out with," I spat at her.
"Well I can tell you what I know. He told me that he doesn't care about girls, only their 'banging bodies' and how good he thinks they are in bed. When I got rid of him he reacted by trying to make me jealous and go for you. Trust me, whatever he has said to you is a lie, he just wants to sleep with you so he can boost his ego even more and say he got the 'emo chick that doesn't talk or open up to anyone'." She said it with such simplicity and honesty that I almost believed her.
"No way. Luke would never do that, I know him." I replied even more annoyed then I already was. This wasn't the time, I had just seen a girl I had worked with for years go off with the guy I kind of liked and now she was telling me this? No.
"I thought I knew him too but I guess he's a good actor," she said flatly. She wasn't even smirking, and that really worried me.
"How do I know you're not lying to me? You hate me! You made my life hell and made it your mission to always make me feel like shit," I stayed. I stared at her and she smiled, but it didn't contain any warmth. It was cold and empty.
"I know and that exactly why, I don't want him hurting you, he'll ruin my fun. I'm the only one allowed to make your life hell around here, everyone knows that." I wanted to hit her so hard right there and then but then the other part of me stopped her. Something told me there was truth behind her wicked story.
Now I truly did go over the edge. I walked away from her quickly, shaking. I practically ran into the staff room and collapsed on the floor. This couldn't be happening. Luke was different, Luke swore that he was different.
I didn't want to believe Milly but it was inevitable, either she was an incredible liar or she was telling the truth. The only way to find out was to ask Luke himself, but there was no way I could do it. I'd have to ask someone else to, someone he trusted, someone I trusted.
Calum.
