My mouth watered instantly seeing the homemade chili. I'm pretty sure Harry got his cooking skills from her.
"You were together in school and you were happy but, she's not the one you'll end up with. I can already see it. She's sweet and all but, she's not the one. Trust me on this" Eve said simply passing us the bowls.
"Renny thinks otherwise" Harry said throwing to the wolves as I looked down at the chili feeling her eyes on me. "She's still delirious from the workout earlier" she snapped making me chuckle rolling my eyes.
"I just meant he shouldn't give up on her. Not under these circumstances" "What circumstances? Him defending the mother of his child? If she's bothered by that, she's not going to make it. You two are attached to each other for the rest of your lives so either she gets over it or leave mi hija" she stated dipping her bread in the chili talking.
I looked over at Harry smiling at me shrugging. "She's not wrong about that" " I know but, I just don't think she was mad because we are... co-parenting. But, since you feel it's over, there's not much I can say. Especially with Eve burning a hole through my head" I laughed looking over to her shrugging.
"He deserves better than that. He needs a woman that is going to support him, love him but, keep him in line when he has his moments. A woman that can take care of the house when you're working"
She looked over at me smiling and I glared at her warning her to not start this. I didn't want things to get any weirder than they already were. Harry and I could hang out and never get weird but with Eve being Eve and wanting to get what she wants, she going to bring up us being together.
"And you need a man to take care of you, worship you and support you in everything you want to pursue. You're an independent woman, you don't need someone to try to control but just be equal. Someone who can keep up with you" she smiled waiting for me to respond.
Harry touched my arm gently. "I got this Ren... Renny is not looking for love ma. She's going to be the dog lady when Gabby goes off to college" he said and I could hear the amusement in his voice as he tried not to laugh.
"Jesus, who hurt you?" I sighed shaking my head. "Okay, enough about our love lives" I stated eating my chili happily as I could still feel Eve looking at me. If there was one thing I hated talking about, it was love.
Not that I didn't believe in it, I just didn't think it was for me. What's the point, once you're attached to someone and something happens, it's over. And it doesn't just go away, it stays there and it hurts. It destroys lives sometimes.
But, some are lucky. They get that happiness and love of their life.
Of course everyone wants that but, they have to chance getting that hurt.
I preferred not taking that chance. Even though, sometimes it did get lonely. Call me weird or whatever but, that's just how I looked at it. At one point in time, I did want it though but, now love was something I had no time for.
If I could maybe just have a 'friend' that would be fine. Someone that won't bullshit me, someone who is fine with just hanging out, talking, venting, going places together but understands a relationship isn't for me.
I don't think I ever had anyone like that other than...
I looked over at him remembering that day we agreed to be friends with benefits.
Flashback
I sighed laying my head back on the couch feeling the buzz. I welcomed it after this week of chaos. His failing relationships and my failing fuck buddies. We needed nothing but a strong drink, blunt and to vent about everything.
