It was cold but I knew we couldn't go inside without waking someone up so I shut the door behind me and shivered violently. He immediately took his hoody off and wrapped it around my shoulders. I tried to shrug it off but he wasn't having it and I wasn't complaining because it was very warm.
"So why are you here exactly?" I asked him looking at the tall boy stood in my front garden. It looked strange seeing him stand there like it was normal.
"When Milly said those things to you... I wanted to scream at her for being so insensitive. I could see they really hurt you but I couldn't do anything because you looked at me like I had eaten your last slice of pizza. Which I understood finally." I laughed at his analogy. "I've been hanging around the girl that's made your life hell. I came here expecting to push my way into your life immediately and get along with you, try and understand you. And when I couldn't - and you don't understand how frustrating and upsetting that was for me - I turned to the one person you despised more than me.
'I finally got it as I walked past you and Calum today. I understood that it is going to take more than being the new kid to get you to like me. I guess I'm just so used to people just letting me in that it annoyed me that I couldn't with you. And I know I'm word vomiting all over you but you need to know I am sorry for being a dick, even though you were a bitch first, and that as soon as I got out of your sight at lunch I left Milly, telling her she was disgusting and that what she had done wasn't right. That's why I got upset when I saw you and Calum because you seemed to have accepted them more but I get it I guess." He finally finished and took a deep breath. My heart was beating at a hundred miles an hour.
He had possibly walked all the way to my house, at night, knowing I don't like him, just to tell me that he was sorry and understood me, or was trying to.
"Luke I-" I honestly didn't know what to say to him.
"It's okay. You don't have to magically like me I just needed to tell you that I like you Hollie, I care. It may not seem like it but I do and I don't like seeing you like you have been or Milly saying things like that to you. So yeah... I'm gonna .. Uh - go I guess ... I'll see you tomorrow maybe?" He stuttered suddenly getting extremely shy. He began to walk away with his hands still in his pockets.
"LUKE!" I called after him. He turned around, his eyes full of hope.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Your jumper," I said taking it off my shoulders. I saw him look at me taking it off and shivering but he still replied.
"No you can keep it, I'll be okay." That was it. I was gone in the world of Luke. Tomorrow I can hate him but tonight? No way.
When I looked for him he was already quite far off and I knew he wouldn't hear me if I shouted so I slipped off my flip flops and ran.
When I was close enough I called his name again.
"Luke!" I shouted. He spun around shocked.
"Hollie?" He questioned, as if he didn't believe it was me.
"Where did that come from?" I asked him. He just sheepishly looked at the floor and shrugged.
"I'm not sure... I just felt bad for intruding on you I guess. I hate it when new people try to pretend they know me and I can't imagine how it is with you if your nemesis gets involved with them too," he explained smiling slightly but not taking his eyes off of his feet, which were now shuffling around the pavement.
"Thank you." I said. His head snapped up at my words and he looked at me shocked.
"What?" He asked in complete shock from the two words that just escaped my lips.
