There was a knock at the door and Benjamin peeked his head into the room. "Uncle."

"Ben." I said. "This is the second time. You have school tomorrow."

"I know but I have some questions." He walked up to my side of thr bed and stared up at me. "Well I can't get all the way up there by myself."

I laughed and picked him up, sitting him beside me. "What did you want to ask me?"

"When is the pretty lady coming back?" He asked.

"Gwendolyn?"

"Yeah. I couldn't renember her name." He scratched his chin.

"Soon Benjamin." I said.

"The lady with the gray hair said that she's bringing new people with her." Benjamin said.

"Mrs.Chambers?"

"Yeah, her." He said. "Uncle, when the new people get here will you still be my best uncle?"

"I'm your only uncle." I said.

"But you're the best uncle." He said.

"Sure Ben. I'll still be your best uncle." I rolled my eyes.

"And still play with me? Always?"

"Not always." I said.

"Why?" He asked.

"Ben, I'll let you in on a little secret. But you can't tell anybody, ok?"

He nodded furiously.

"The new people are babies." I whispered.

"Really? Squishy, loud babies like my sister?" He said.

"Yes." I responded.

"Oh no!" He gasped.

"I have to take care of them though or she'll kill me." I said.

"Who?"

"The pretty lady."

"I'll protect you uncle." He stood up. "She'd never hurt me."

"No I don't need protection Ben. I need you to love them as much as everybody else will." I said.

He dropped back down. "But what would that do?"

"If you mistreat them, I'll have to argue with the pretty lady." I explained. "Neither of us wants that."

"Arguing will make you not be like mommy and daddy, right?" He asked.

"What do you mean?"

"I get up sometimes, after bedtime, and I hear mommy and daddy making noises." He said.

"Something like that." I said making a mental note to slap Francis when he came back for Ben.

"When I asked Daddy about it he just said that it makes you happy. So if you and her argue it won't be happy?" He asked.

"Something like that." I responded again.

"Then I promise to be on my best behavior." He said.

He yawned. "Uncle..."

"Yes Benjamin?"

"I don't want to sleep out there alone."

I flipped the blanket over and tucked him into Gwendolyn's spot. "This is only time Ben."
