"They don't think we're drowning,

But our heads are still above the waves,

Above the waves!"

"Get up."

I tossed onto my other side away from the voice disrupting my slumber.

"I said get up." The voice hissed at me.

I sighed then decided to grab my pillow and shove it over my head to stop the constant voice from annoying me.

"Nadia, how many times must I repeat myself?"

I looked towards Adrik with my eyes half closed from sleep. I should have known the voice was him, just by having to hear it day and night. Instead of his usual attire of a button-down shirt and pants, he threw on a simple yet elegant shirt which brought out the inner midnight blue in his irises.

He sighed at my lack of response, dropping his head in frustration then walking towards the door. "You have a few minutes to get ready, but meet me downstairs in the foyer when you're done." Smoothing out the fabric of his shirt as he looked in the mirror, he plastered on a smile before shutting the door behind him.

I knew today was the day we both had been dreading, as our wedding was now formally being dated and planned. Instead of a giddy, engaged woman I should be, I felt nothing but nerves and fear.

I got up and quickly used the bathroom, set up everything for Adrik's shower later when I knew he'd return from late night chats with his father for future plans of the town and covenant they ruled. Walking into the our fairly large closet, I hastly grabbed the outfit that was specifically hung first on the rack for today. It was silky, satin and very expensive.

As I gracefully held my head up high and walked down the marble stairs, I met Adrik at the bottom. Wrapping my hand around his elbow, we smiled at every passerby -- keeping up our image. I took a small glance towards him as we approached the office door fo his father.

His hair still hung barely touching his shoulders and his sapphire eyes contained no emotion at all. If he hadn't had the smile on his face I would have thought he was planning on killing everyone he knew.

He opened the door for me, then closed it behind us. When we were halfway down the hallway he grabbed my hand into his, but it meant nothing really.

There was no butterfly feeling in my gut, because to Adrik all I really am is an escape from his parents's constant nagging. The only beneficial thing about me was that to him my blood was divine. Though he's not allowed to drink from me, yet. Apparently that's supposed to be saved for the honeymoon, but we're still trying to decide on what to do in that situation.

As we reached the cooridor, Adrik went over our usual rules, "Remember, no speaking unless you are spoken too, don't take your hand off of mine and never make eye contact with anyone else in the room aside from me and my parents."

I followed them like he said, everytime we visited a meeting, confrontation or simple conversation to the public. I was a mere human, to speak to those higher above me was irrational and for making eye contact with them, well, I never really understood that one. As for the neverending hand holding? That's all fake, we're supposed to be in love, but Adrik has priorities and as I overheard him talking to a fellow prince of another nation, I wasn't really all that important and we'd divorce once the publicity dies down.

The doors opened to reveal the Queen and King themselves, sitting proper upon their bestowed thrones.

"My son." The King said.

"Father." Adrik replied politely. Both of us payed our respect by bowing, still holding hands.

Adrik then nodded his head to his mother's direction and she smiled back to him. I never really heard her ever speak once at these things. I guess the whole male-dominance thing is a key factor for vampires.

"Nadia." The King said, as my eyes drifted from Adrik to his father I noticed some sort of tension in the air.

"Yes, your magesty?"

"What are your thoughts on this marriage?" The question threw me off guard. I knew what my answer would be, but it was just shocking the King was asking me for my opinoun.

"I'm perfectly fine with it."

"And you love my son, correct?"

"Of course, what is not to love about your son? He will be a great ruler someday." Just to add to the lies, I placed my head on Adrik strong shoulder and looked innocently at the King.

He looked us over for about a moment before replying with, "Great! So the lovebirds are set, now we just need the accersories for this wedding and in about several months consider you two the next rulers of our covenant."

I looked at Adrik in a panic and he seemed to be thinking something over, we both knew several months was way too fast. We still needed to over-view our plans for the divorce and how we were going to be able to pull it off.

"That soon?" Adrik asked, nonchalantly. "We were thinking it would take at least a year to help prepare the town for the royal marriage."

The King scoffed. "Please, we want you two to spend the rest of your days together as soon as possible! We know young love when we see it."

I was still awake at the late hour of three in the morning and I knew if I didn't sleep soon, there would not be any hope for any sleep at all.

Then suddenly, Adrik's long arm hit my back. He was tossing and turning, which was odd for him. I shook those thoughts away and looked out the window. The blinds were apart so you could see the night sky beautifully shining down on the world. The moon was pretty close, almost like you could reach out and touch it.

Then Adrik's arm hit me again.

I sighed and turned over to shake him, it was possible that he could be having a bad dream. Gently placing my hand on his shoulder, I nudged him a bit only to have him stay restless.

I did it again, this time with more force but he still did not feel a thing.

Finally as I did it a  third time, he finally opened his eyes but I realised I did something very stupid.

When his eyes opened it was not because he noticed he was disturbing me and I woke him, it was because he thought someone was attacking him in his sleep.

He immediately jumped up, throwing me off the bed in the process. I hit the ground with a loud bang and he crouched over me hissing and bearing his prominent fangs.

The dark had hid my features pretty well, because the next thing I was being grabbed by the throat and picked up like a rag doll.

The thing that scared me the most were Adrik's eyes, in the dark the sapphire blue had a twisted and sinister look in them. I couldn't even speak, let alone scream.

Adrik then walked, with me still suffocating from his grip. I started scratching him, kicking my legs but those attempts were futile.

I was going to die from his hands, literally.

It wasn't until the moonlight shined upon my pale skin and features did Adrik know who he was going to murder.

The sinister and twisted look in his eyes completely vanished and turned into something much softer.

He dropped me, but not before making his way over to the bed. I landed in a pile of comfy sheets.

"Nadia, I--," He stuttered, running a hand throughn his hair while breathing heavily. Though his threatening demeanor dropped, his fangs were still pointed and visible.

I did not even know what to say, I was simply coughing and wheezing.

"Honestly Nadia, I didn't realize."
