“Wha…?”
He kissed me slowly, languidly, and I felt my heart shiver and melt.
He smiled a lazy grin. His grin.
“Why don’t we try a different tempo this time…?”

I tugged on the fabric of my dress nervously. It didn’t feel right. My legs felt naked, despite the fact that the length went past my knees.
Kayli looked up and down appreciatively. “It’s disappointing I couldn’t talk you into something sexier but you’ve got a great body. I’d kill for your height.”
“Can’t I wear shorts underneath?” I asked, pressing my legs tightly together. The wrong wind would make me show off a lot more than I cared to.
She frowned. “No, it’d look bulky. You seriously haven’t worn a dress before tonight?”
I shook my head, feeling a blush rise to my cheeks.
She cursed under her breath and looked up at me with her vivid eyes. “Well, Diz, you are going to knock Lark out.”
She gave me another once over and then grabbed my hand. “Okay we’ve taken enough time. The guys will be waiting. Liam’s probably having an apoplexy.”
I smiled at the thought. He’d yelled through the door several times, stating how late we were already.
She opened the door and, before it was even fully open, Larkin came bursting in. he looked me up and down and grinned hugely.
“Perfect, wonderful.”
“You’re welcome,” Kayli said smarmily.
Larkin raised an eyebrow, keeping his gaze on me. “She’d look beautiful wearing a sack, midget.”
She scoffed and winked at me before leaving to find Liam. I fidgeted as Larkin made no move, simply staring.
“Should we leave?”
He looked into my eyes and lifted his hand, crooking his pointer finger. “C’mere.”
I laughed nervously and took a step forward. He had an intense look on his face. When I was close enough, he wrapped his arms loosely around my shoulders and rested his forehead against mine.
“She did good. I’m going to have to beat men away from you.” His voice rumbled softly. “Lucky I have no current obligations to the Cat clan so I can pass the night without leaving your side.”
That didn’t make me any less nervous. This was a dinner for Luke’s clan, I felt like I was trespassing. I’d been uncomfortable enough when I’d been babysitting a few shape changers.
