"I would offer the spare room at our apartment but I've got a friend staying over for a while. But I'll make sure we visit so she has some girl company."
I'm right here! I shouted mentally. Don't talk around me!
"It's fine, we have room." Garth tugged the hem of his shirt down with a frown and poked his finger through a small hole. He shot an unhappy look at me as if I were to blame for it. I gazed back unfeelingly; he was the one who'd attacked me.
"I'm fine with staying here," I said firmly, jutting out my chin. I didn't care where I stayed as long as it wasn't back at the house with Scythe and Cher. As long as Larkin kept his clothes on...
"Okay then," said the boyfriend of Kayli, seeming as though he wanted to rush things along. "Luke, Larkin. Could I talk to you both outside for a moment?"
Luke started to make his way out of the room without hesitation. Larkin looked as though he was gritting his teeth but he dragged his feet slowly behind them both.
"Garth, do you have a room set up?" Kayli asked.
He frowned. "The spare room down the end of the hall will be hers."
I was sensing some awkwardness between them, as if they were forcing themselves to speak politely.
"Did she have any belongings?"
"I'm right here," I finally said aloud.
Kayli turned her head toward me and raised her brows. "So, do you?"
She didn't even look apologetic.
"My bag's in Luke's car. It has a few spare changes of clothing."
"And a few passports and knives," Garth muttered airily. I glared at him.
"Why don't I show her to her room?" said Garth. Before Kayli could say anything, he lightly grabbed my arm and led me from the room.
"Maybe you should be talking with Liam too!" she shouted out behind us. "I don't get why he didn't."
Garth hunched his shoulders and ignored her. We came to the end of the hall and he pointed to the door on the left. "I guess you can relax in there for a while. There's a screen that functions as a television, stereo and touch computer, you can use it as much as you like. You can relax in there or anywhere inside the house. If you're using the internet, try not to use any programs that could lead people to you."
I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, none of that attitude," he said with a grin. "I don't know if you're intelligent or not."
"I'm not a bloody idiot," I muttered.
His grin widened. "Good. I can't stand idiots. If you want food, don't hesitate to ask."
I creased my brow. "I don't feel comfortable receiving free food, accommodation and stuff like that. Do you know if there's a job nearby? I could work in retail or something."
He shook his head. "It's best if you stick to the inside of the house boundaries. That way you're less likely to be found. Can you type?"
I gave him an incredulous look and nodded.
"Once again, I don't know anything about you. If you really want, you can type up some notes for me; do a bit of secretary work."
I shrugged. "That'd be good."
He nodded with a smile. "Alright. Now that you've agreed I can tell you I've got tonnes of sheets of paper that need typing. I think I'm not going to hate you being here after all."
