Echoes of Unrequited Love

Maybe I'm a fool beyond measure,
When I offer my shoulder for you to cry on,
Yet it's your very presence that brings my tears at night,
And my stifled sobs as I hold you while you weep,
Because she hurts you once again.

Maybe I'm a fool beyond measure when I say you can always lean on me,
For even when you're here with me, I know your world belongs to her,
And my love and devotion for you will forever go unnoticed,
As your world revolves around her like a warm, radiant sun.
Whenever I see you with her, I'm forced to close my eyes,
For the pain is unbearable, and if I were to linger and gaze,
I might be blinded by it, drained of all my energy.

Maybe I'm a fool beyond measure, always believing that,
Perhaps there's a chance for us, that someday you'll wake up,
And realize that I'm the one meant for you.
That someday, you'll see that I'm the one who's always by your side.
I would never change you to fit into my world,
For even if I were to lose everything, as long as we're together, it's enough.
I'll celebrate every success with you,
Embrace you in your moments of despair,
Stand up with you when you stumble and fall.
And I promise, together we'll climb to the top, as long as I have you.

Maybe I'm a fool beyond measure, believing in all of this,
Deluding myself with my own fantasies,
Inflicting pain upon myself by clinging to false hopes.
