"We're stopping," Garth growled.
"You don't control the car," she retorted. "And it's stupid. You're obviously in a hurry to get out of here. We don't need to stop."
"We didn't decide to help you to just let you die of starvation. Did they not feed you or something?"
The backseat was quiet and I looked back to see her head bowed, her fingers fidgeting. Was she remembering mistreatment? What would that bastard have done to innocent girls like her to get their absolute obedience?
"I was treated very well," she murmured softly, almost regretfully.
For once, Garth didn't say anything back.

'What would you like? Just type it in, wait for our signal, swipe you card and it'll be ready for you in less than a minute.'
I typed in my favourite, two cheeseburgers and a large orange juice, then added Garth's usual a large chicken salad and a large coffee shake. With that mix it was no wonder that he was cranky and uptight all the time. I looked behind me to the girl in the back seat.
"What are you after?" I asked, ready for a big order.
"What do they have?"
Garth and I gave each other stunned glances.
"They have everything at EveryFood drive thrus. Hence the name," Garth said dryly.
"Do they have chicken and sweet corn soup?"
I could practically FEEL Garth rolling his eyes.
"I'm telling you, kid. They sell e-ver-ee-thing."
She glared at him. "Then the soup would be great."
"And...?" I asked. There was no way soup could fill her.
"That'll be fine."
I wrote in her order, added another large juice, an apple crumble and a ham sandwich. 'That'll be fine'... Was this girl one of those people who thought asking for too much was rude? Take advantage! That was my motto.
I drove to chute opening and almost immediately the orders flowed out. When I handed her all the extra food she frowned at me.
"I only ordered the soup." She lifted the large steaming cup.
"Ah, these come free with every soup," I lied easily. Garth had to look away so that she didn't see him laugh.
I scarfed down a burger quickly as the car auto-drove back onto the highway and considered how to explain our extra person to my pack council. Other than Garth, Liam and Kayli, I wanted no one to know who she had been working for and what she had been trained as. I would have to have a long talk with her about keeping the secret and what she was allowed to do while staying in my house...
Ah crap. She couldn't stay with me. There was nearly no excuse, no excuse I'd be willing to use, that would deter half the pack from coming to the conclusion that we were together, romantically. I couldn't force her to stay with Kayli and Liam, though they'd be a good choice, but they'd only recently moved in together and Dizelde would get the uncomfortable constant feeling of being the third wheel. Liam's father, Dan, I could trust but he already had one problem kid, Donovan, staying with him and I didn't want to burden him with another. And I didn't know him well enough to ask him any favours. The one man that owed his life, twice, had moved to Cornwall with his girlfriend, Moro. I could've really used his help.
I glanced at Garth. He wouldn't like it. And he was already sharing rent with an annoying housemate. Well, annoying in Garth's book, which described pretty much everyone according to him. I personally found Larkin fun to have around, even if he did chase girls around like they were becoming extinct. He also was a little too much in tune with his alternate shape, a wolf, but his animalistic quirks were amusing.
