Society Watching

"Me."

It's all our society cares about.

We're narcissistic,

Self-centered,

And vain.

"Me, me, me."

It's all I ever seem to hear.

Self benefit is normally our only reason for doing good

And if it's for another,

There's always some underlying egoism.

And that is one's motivation for doing good.

But when society stops watching,

Paying attention,

What will we do?

We'll have no one to praise us.

No one to reward us.

Just like that,

Our motivation for doing good is gone.

Vanished.

Disappeared.

Because in reality, isn't society the only thing holding us back from doing what we desire?

Whether it's right or wrong?

I fear the day,

Though it will never come,

When society stops listening.

All we want is someone to listen to us.

But as soon as the listener is gone,

What unforeseen wrongs could be done?
