“Don’t overthink anything right now, Dizelde. You should be relieved and nothing more. You’re a plucky kid. I want you to know that I know of some jobs available if you’re at all interested. I understand the situation that you’re in and my father has offered to support you in full for any apprenticeships that you choose to undertake.”
Dan overheard and stepped forward. “My best friend was the one who saved you from your father. I’m sure he would’ve wanted things done right. It was one of his last missions.”
Kayli chuckled. “I dare you to say no.”
“Why would I?”” I said quietly. “Not that I’ve ever given any thought to…” My brain was working way too fast.
“I can help you with anything, kiddo.” Dan patted my shoulder and then went back to helping James with the salad.
I was suddenly blinking back tears. Warm hands came around my shoulders and a firm body came to rest at my back. Larkin’s night time scratchy stubble grazed my cheek.
“Don’t heap things on her, Sir Liam.”
“Larkin…” I said warningly. We had talked about his overprotectiveness already today.
“Oh, my bad,” he laughed grimly. “Please, continue with your pressuring revelations.”
“What, are you saying that I shouldn’t tell her these things?” Liam questioned sternly.
I leant heavily against Lark, quietly warning him again. I knew he wouldn’t lose his temper but I sensed his ego would egg Liam on until he blew up.
“Of course not, was that sarcasm you heard? I’m never sarcastic.” Lark – purposely – kissed my cheek and pulled me back, out the kitchen.
“He was helping,” I said when we were out of earshot.
“You were about to cry. I’m sorry. You didn’t need me to charge in on my white horse.”
“You never saw my face,” I said.
“Mmm, don’t need to,” he said absentmindedly.
“Larkin, what’s the matter?” I frowned and caught his eyes in mine.
The corner of his mouth lifted up. “Just me being a worry-wart. I heard you and Luke talking this morning. I was thinking, what if you were right and Morse wasn’t the one running it all? That means there’s still trouble out there and Liam and his crew aren’t on the alert.”
“Surely they won’t relax until everything is wrapped up properly.” I felt a shiver run up my spine. “Things just don’t simply cut off and turn back to normal like a television series.”
He smirked and wrapped his arms around me. “There’s no such thing as ‘the end’, right?”
Some of you may have gotten that reference, others may not have. Bleh.
I am sorry for my absence. Truly. Life just slammed me in the face in the past two months and I've had priorities over writing. I'm still not absolutely settled in to college life again but with homework comes the need to procrastinate so here we are.
This is a very shoddy ending. I wanted to give you something and I gave you a piece of crap with a random finish. This sucks but I had to get my writing going or it'd never get done. I will most definitely change this at a future date but right now I'm writing an epilogue and editing the first chapter of the third installment in the series. When I get back into the rhythm of writing I'll do this over. The third book is the final so we'll get down to business, finally, with the bigger picture surrounding the blood-witches and some new characters.
I'm pretty much expecting shock horror comments. I, too, thought I'd draw this out longer. And don't be arguing with me now; It sucks. I know it, you know it, some of you may have smelt this shit coming before I even posted.
I have something else for you to concentrate on though, if you need;
A lot of you may have read Dan's Story. I'd like to do another similar sort of thing with another character. It's your vote but only one will be written;
Luke's Story
Garth's Story
Donovan's Story
I'm a bit iffy with Luke's story because he's still an important character in the next story but if I told either G's or D's life story, it wouldn't contain many spoilers ;) And I wanna do this because writing about Dan helped me with TTR and TPA so I'm giving it another whirl.
Again, I'm sorry. Also sorry about this note. Who likes long author's notes? Not me. What a hypocrite.
Love ya's!
