Hearing about love triangles to most potential writers by now is as bad as cursing. There have just been too many of them by now, especially with Twilight and The Hunger Games popularizing the trope. It has gotten so bad in fact that this cliche can be found almost anywhere, whether on newer supernatural themed shows such as The Vampire Diaries or parody reality shows such as Total Drama. The cliche has gotten that darn bad. The only way to avoid this cliche is just not to use it, as all you'll get if you create one now in your work is fan controversy or worse hatred. I find this kind of a shame, as some love triangles have actually been good. However, a cliche is a cliche, so this has to go on the list.
