As sweet as it is to see the two main leads get together after so many struggles in a movie or book, it is an unrealistic cliche. Although I like when this happens for the most part, in a writing standpoint, it is better off that the two main leads remains friends and date other people. This route is what will make the writing more original, vs. having two main characters just get together.
