It is home to the Pentagon, the vast administrative building that epitomizes American excess, housing the headquarters of the United States Department of Defense where critical strategic and military decisions are made. Arlington is thus a community adjacent to the capital, Washington, where many military personnel live, as many are stationed at the Pentagon.
