Today's case unfolds in the charming little city of Colorado Springs in 1990.
On a September evening, Dianne Hood, a 32-year-old woman, was leaving a local community center. The center hosted weekly support groups for individuals diagnosed with Lupus, and Dianne regularly attended these sessions.
Lupus is a chronic long-term disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of your body. It's an auto-immune disease, which means that your own immune system that usually fights off infections, attacks healthy tissue instead. So your body's kind of like attacking itself.
Diana was diagnosed with Lupus in the 1980s, long after she and her husband, Brian Hood, had relocated to Colorado.
Originally from Pecos County, Texas, Dianne was born in July 1958. She was known to be deeply religious and frequently visited churches. Brian and Dianne crossed paths while attending Angelo State University in Texas, where Dianne was a cheerleader and Brian was a prominent college football star.
