Today's case takes place in a little town in Missouri called Independence, in an adorable little neighborhood just east of Kansas City.
Back in the 1940s, Independence had approximately 55,000 residents. During the 1950s and 1960s, the city experienced significant growth, with the population increasing from 62,000 to around 110,000 people by the 1970s.
Sharon Elizabeth Hall, born on November 30th, 1939, lived in this little town.

When she was still in junior high, she and her parents moved to Washington State, but by the time Sharon turned 15, they had returned to Missouri, where she attended William Chrisman High School, and she wasn't looking forward to it.
Growing up, friends and classmates would say that at such a young age, Sharon was always thinking about the day when she could get out of this small town of Independence and move to a big city, like Los Angeles or New York, for good.
By the time Sharon was 16 - just like any normal teenage girl - she was obsessed with reading magazines and following celebrity gossip. It was all so glamorous to her.
In the summer of 1956, when Sharon was 16 years old, fate brought her together with James Kinne, a 22-year-old college student – questionable but sure – she met at a church event.

James, an engineering student at Brigham Young University, was back in Independence for the summer before he headed back to university in Provo, Utah.
