"I hate getting flashbacks from things I don't want to remember."

Chapter 71

*flashback ends*

The second day took an unexpected turn. It was tough. Aina found herself caught in the middle of her sister and mother's argument, making Kasumi's decision to move back to Tokyo even more challenging.

"You still don't have a clue about what you want in life! How can you just show up here with a suitcase and announce that you're engaged to someone who your father and I have never even met."

"Why does that matter? The important thing is that I know him, we love each other. He's a good guy and he treats me so good!" Kasumi retorted, feeling frustrated. Aina, still recovering from yesterday's headache, grabbed the apple juice with closed eyes.

"You're making a mess again!" their mom scolded as Aina accidentally spilled the juice in front of her. Kasumi chuckled and leaned back in her chair. Aina shot her a grin, sighing loudly, knowing she couldn't keep up the act. She wanted to shield her sister from their mother's harsh words and focus the conversation on her. She couldn't bear to listen to her mother any longer.

"See? Even yesterday. You come home, but your dear fiancé, who is still asleep... Your little sister had to bring him here, completely drunk! What a disgrace! Shameful for years to come!"

"Mom, please stop! Isn't that enough? Can't you see that you're disrespecting your future son-in-law?" Aina wished she could kick her mother just to make her stop talking.

"I'm not disrespecting him, I'm just stating the truth. He's a grown man, he should know how to behave." Mom paused.

"Huh, seriously? You act like you've never stumbled home drunk before," Kasumi chuckled irritably. Their father had just sat down at the table, allowing the conversation to flow more freely. However, both girls, his daughters, knew it wouldn't be long before he joined the debate.

"I'm not saying it's never happened to me, but I would never do something like that while visiting my fiancee's parents," their mother said again.

Aina insisted, wiping up the mess she made earlier with the failed apple juice using a towel.

"We got him home, put him to bed, and now he's just sleeping. He was doing his own thing the whole time." She lied.

"Who's 'us'?" the father suddenly asked.

"Oh, yeah," Aina said, leaning back in the chair next to her sister, who raised an eyebrow at her words, "Shuntaro helped me get him home, but he left right after that." She lied again.

"The doctor?" Mom asked suddenly, to which Aina simply nodded and grabbed a pastry from the plate.

"Also, remember when you first met him? It was in my room, late at night. He brought me home drunk and you found us in a really questionable position," Aina laughed, trying to lighten the situation and emphasize that nobody is perfect.

"Really?" Kasumi laughed, placing her hands on the table and shaking her head in disbelief. "And now you're going to lecture me about how terrible my fiance is? He's just a regular person like everyone else." Kasumi turned her gaze towards her mother, who was taken aback and avoided making eye contact with either of her daughters. Father gently admonished his wife, urging her to be more careful with her words. Aina couldn't comprehend why she continued to treat her older sister as if she was a stranger, as if they weren't even related by blood. She stared into her sister's tear-filled eyes, the cheeks flushing with anger. Taking a deep breath, Kasumi rose from her seat, leaning on the table for support, and fixed her gaze on their mother's face.
