im black and let me tell u i am so proud of my hair like my peoples' hair. we can do all types of styles and we look cute af
take me for example. i have braids. i could do more with my hair like curling it and letting the braids loose but
a) my braids are already beautiful put down the magazines
b) im not looking for a change anytime soon
c) it's harsh to hair to damage it by putting heat on it and since my hair is different, i can't sleep with my hair loose...
but there are some annoying things that come with having beautiful braids instead of loose hair.
1) white people always wanna touch ur hair. im gonna give u a scenario.
me - *chillin out in my badass braids*
white person - *pats head weirdly*
me - *smiles bc im nice as fuck*
white person - oh golly! your hair is just SO lovely/beautiful. who did it??? *smiles at me like im a dog*
me - my mom *smiles*
me in my head - um hello who the fuck else did my hair like dont u read books written by black people talking about their mom sitting behind them braiding their hair? andddd why ur nasty ass hands touching my hair? like ik u from an environment where u dont see my type of hair but it's not that interesting like damn why don't u start putting me on newspapers or something. i can see it now: "girl with extravagant corn rows! read the story about how her mom made this exclusive piece of art !11!11!1!1!"
2) people, any race, have the nerve to ask u if ur hair is weave if you did something fancy to ur normal braids. scenarioooo-
once my friend did her hair fancy and my other friend who doesnt have braids was like:
"is that weave?"
and me and her and my other black friend were like ughh.
like just bc a girl with cute hair is black doesn't. mean. it's. weave. and that's pretty rude to ask if u ask me bc black girls with weaves is a rude stereotype so why would u ask a black girl if she had a weave. that's so annoying and ugh.
3) whenever u tell people without braids that ur hair is naturally textured, someone gets offended. scenario -
me: oh my hair is naturally textured
my white friend: so my hair is artificially textured?
lol shut up
dont even make a joke about it like i knew she was joking and i got so annoyed and she was trying not to laugh she wanted to get smacked i swear.
4) whenever i tell my friends without braids that my head is itchy they're like... ew
me - ugh my head is itchy
Them - umm okay? (But really they think its gross bc it implies that i dont wash my hair)
me - don't get grossed out
them - we're not
me - yeah you are because you dont know that i wash my hair every two weeks so dirt gathers in it which IS FINE i dont wash my hair every other fucking day bc if you do that, regardless of whether ur hair is naturally textured or not, you are damaging ur hair.
5) people dont think i use hair products at all bc theyre ignorant. like im pretty sure just a few weeks ago my friend realized that yes, i know what shampoo is and i use it! and yes, i use a lot of products in my hair like oil just like u use beach spray in ur hair. she was like "wow u have a lot of products" and she got a little more sensitive about it bc she didnt know why i over react whenever i talk about my hair.
