16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world might be saved through him.
Romans 10:9

9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
It's Jesus who gives eternal life. Thus we need to accept Jesus into our hearts, not just to not go to hell but out of love that He died so we can be in heaven. He died so we can be saved. He was tortured in our place so we can have life in abundance. He felt pain so we can one day never feel it again. He was hurt so that we will never mourn when in heaven. Jesus paid the price so we can have the confidence that has our eternity secured in His love and that we will one day be with Him in perfect peace.
