Chapter 4 | Learn
"Good old Ava worrying about the rules even when the world has gone to shit"-Kayden

-October 15th 2010 59 days since the start of the end of the world.
-We celebrated Kayden's 15th birthday a month ago. We have been in this house for so long that the books in the attic are starting to become boring. Soon I will have every book memorized by heart.
-My dad is going to take us outside to learn how to defend ourselves against the biters with knives. My dad, Kayden, and Cody have already gone outside for runs so they know how to protect themselves. My father wants to teach us knives because using a gun only attracts more of them to you.
-Everyone did pretty well, even Jasmine and she is almost five month pregnant. The only person that would not participate was Miranda; she's still convinced that it's all going to blow over. My dad reminded us that just because we did good outside with the group we killed that was in a controlled setting and we knew that we wouldn't die.
-November 25th 2010 100 days since the start of the end of the world.
-My father has been preparing for winter. He's been cutting trees so we will be able to stay warm all winter long. I've been studying the movement of the biters and they barely come around as just one they've been starting to come around in hoards. I told my father about this so he would be safe when he went out.
-I've been out a few times on run's because I know what medical supplies that we are going to need for Jasmine when she goes into labor.
-Miranda doesn't do anything important. The only thing that she's good for is giving us all hair cuts because she was a hairdresser before she married my dad.
-December 30th 135 days since the start of the end of the world.
-The morale has been really low and everyone is really sick from how cold it is. Jasmine almost died due to how sick she is and with her being 7 month pregnant it took almost everything out of her. We ran out of oil so we can't just put the heat on to warm us all up so we all are piled in the living room with our blankets near the wood stove. At least with the freezing temperature we haven't seen that many biter's.
-January 20th 2011 156 days since the start of the end of the world.
-It's going to be Mariah's 14th birthday in a few days, so me, Kayden, and my dad decide to go out and try to find something special for her.
-"Why did you need me to come with you guys?" I ask.
-"Because you're the same age as my sister and you know what she would like", Kayden tells me.
-"We couldn't bring Emily or Elizabeth with us because they don't know how to keep a secret", my dad says.
-"They wouldn't even come out here", I joke.
-We couldn't find anything that I thought she would like. Then boom we hit the jackpot at a jewelry store.
-The place is a mess, the cash registers are broken into and the glass to the cases are all smashed. Can't believe in the mess that we are going through. People still had the need to steal money.
-I wanted to get Mariah a necklace with her name on it but I couldn't find one that said Mariah so I grabbed a necklace that has a little turtle on it Mariah used to love sea animal's when she was younger. I spot two necklaces that have the twin's names written on them. I hesitate before I grab them.
-"Is this considered stealing?" I ask my dad.
-"Honey I think that's the least of our problems right now", my dad tells me.
-"Good old Ava worrying about the rules even when the world has gone to shit", Kayden says.
