Rick Grimes was always there for his sister, Leona, when she needed him, so upon hearing about his injuries resulting from a high-speed chase, she dropped everything to visit him in the hospital. Mariella Greene feels as if she's lost herself. While that may have been common in the apocalypse, being isolated on her family's farm was exhausting and isolating. She was a combat medic, used to having chaos all around her. Going from insanity around her to utter silence was almost... scary.
