(Y/n) lay in her hospital bed, staring at the steril white ceiling.  Not two weeks ago, her entire family was killed in a gruesome car accident.  (Y/n) was the only survivor.
(Y/n) blamed herself for the accident.  If she hadn't been fighting with (sibling's name) in the back seat of the family minivan, her father wouldn't have been distracted and he would have been able to focus on the road.  If he was able to focus on the road, he would have seen the red light, he would have stopped and they would not have caused a eleven car pileup in the busiest intersection in (city name).

****************

(Y/n) listened to the ragged breathing of her hospital roommate.  He was a young man, no older than twenty five with beautiful caramel coloured skin.  Before his surgery, be had had a mop of smooth-looking chocolate hair.  Now, his head was bald and a long scar going from his hairline all the way to the base of his skull.  He had had brain surgery.
She overheard his doctor telling him he had a brain tumor about three days ago.
They had wheeled him in and out of the OR today.
As (Y/n) sat contemplating what her survival meant, a young man walked into her shared hospital room, paying no mind to (Y/n).  He headed straight for her roommate's bed and sat down in a plastic chair, looking very concerned.
(Y/n) couldn't help but stare and feel envious towards Mr. Brain surgery.
Yep.
That's right.
She was jealous of a man who had just gotten brain surgery.
But that was only because he still had someone who still seemed to be concerned about him.  She continued to stare at the man in the plastic chair.  He didn't seem to notice her so she spoke up.
"I'm (Y/n)." She said.
The man looked up and his green eyes met her (e/c) ones.  "Yeah great." He spat in an aggressive Italian accent. "If you can't tell, my friend had just had brain surgery and I don't care to make any new acquaintances in the hospital, stupida ragazza."
(Y/n) didn't look away.  "I know that he just had brain surgery.  I heard his doctor say so."
The angry man glared at her.  "Isn't it rude to snoop, or is that different in (your country)."
"Oh no," (Y/n) nodded.  "It is considered rude."
"Then why do you do it?"
"If you can give me something better to do in a boring hospital room, I will happily do it." She said, making sure that she didn't break eye contact with the man.
He looked her over.  "You look a little young to not have anyone by your side at a time like this.  What happened to you anyway?"
"Car accident.  My family's dead." She said blandly.
The angry man looked guilty.  He had just been mouthing off a young girl who had recently lost her family.  He looked away and they stayed silent for a few minutes.
"I'm Lovino." He said, breaking the silence.  "That's Antonio." He said, nodding his chin towards Mr. Brain surgery.
(Y/n), who hadn't taken her eyes of  the two men, smiled.  "So," She started in a mischievous tone.  "Is he like your lover, or something?"
"No!" Lovino yelled almost immediately.
(Y/n) giggled.  "Yeah." She rolled her eyes.  "Whatever you say, though guy."
Lovino stood up.  "I'm being serious!" He walked over to (Y/n)'s side.  "I can even prove it!" His face was flushed a deep red.  Before (Y/n) could ask what he meant, he cupped her face and forcefully kissed her.
This was a pleasant surprise for (Y/n).
It was the first time she'd felt happy in weeks.
