104: guilty

Elaine's POV

I handed in my resignation letter earlier this week, I am not gonna be shushed up. If I have to loose it all to tell my truth then so be it. Today I went to therapy as usual, when I came back I did all the house chores. I was bored out of my mind so I was reading a novel. Billie barged in with a huge grin on her face.

Elaine: what's up why you smiling like that?

Billie: (smile)

I take my spectacles off and sit up straight, yes I wear spectacles when reading. Billie sits next to me and gives me a paper.

Elaine: what is this?

Billie: read it

Elaine: okay

After I'm done reading I look at her with my eyes wide open.

Elaine: what?

Billie: yeah

Elaine: you bought me a building?

Billie: yes

I hug her

Elaine: (tears in the eye) baby

Billie: don't cry

Elaine: (shaky voice) thank you

Billie: it's okay

Elaine: wait, I don't have that much experience and I'm in the middle of a case no one will want to work with me

Billie: why wouldn't they? You're a great doctor, tell me who got her doctorate at just seventeen?

Elaine: (smile)

Billie: see don't worry about everything else

Billie's POV

She hugs me tightly

Elaine: I love you

Billie: I love you too mamas

Elaine: gosh I'm so happy, I can't wait to see the place.

Billie: it still needs work thou, I want you to make it your own

Elaine: (shed tear) thank you

I wipe away the tear that had fallen from her face

Billie:  it's okay

Elaine: can we go see the place?

Billie: yeah sure

We got in the car and we drove to the building.

Elaine: Billie this place is huge

Billie: come on, be careful

The place was still being constructed

Elaine: how did I get this lucky?

Billie: I'm the lucky one

She hugs me then her phone rings

Elaine: hey... I'll send you my location...okay see you

Billie: who was that?

Elaine: Zara

Billie: okay come lemme show you around

I show her through the building and then Zara arrives.

Zara: what are y'all doing in a construction site?

Elaine: (grins)

Zara: you building a house?

Elaine: no

Zara: then?

Elaine: Billie is building me a surgery

Zara: what?

Elaine: I know right?

Time skip

The case has been going on for a year and today we're getting the verdict I'm so anxious. I couldn't go to South Africa because I've been very busy in my surgery but I made appearances in every other day scheduled. I was in my office with Billie, our friends and her family.

Elaine: I'm so anxious

Billie: don't be we got this one

Elaine: (sigh)

This case has to be the most difficult thing I've ever went through after my dad's passing. There were times were the world was with us and sometimes against us. We made headlines each and every week and most of the time it wasn't good. Dr Van Der Merwe would do interviews were he dragged my name through the mud, he'd call me all sorts of name. He was very influential in the medicine world so most doctors didn't want to work with me when I started my surgery. Even with that I still managed to hire ten doctors and ten nurses. It wasn't a lot but it worked.

Judge: the court finds Samuel Van Der Merwe guilty of rape and is sentenced to twenty five years of imprisonment

We all jumped out of our chairs when we heard the verdict and Billie lifted me up then swirled with me in her arms. We kissed until my eyes failed me and I shed tears.

Billie: he's going to jail don't cry

Elaine: no I'm not crying these are tears of joy. Now I can finally focus on my life and get it together.
