C H A P T E R 8 | SEE THE BRUISE

"Thanks for last night. I apologize again." Aspen sighs sipping her cup of coffee.

"It's no problem. Can I ask what happened?" I said, there's two reason why someone could act so crazily as she did one she just really likes to party or two somethings wrong.

"You realized that huh?"

I nodded.

"My parents are getting a divorce which means I'm staying with my mom while my brother goes off with my dad in Chicago." She tells me.

It would be hard for anyone with parents going through that, as for me, my mother just left one day without a word. It's even harder when you don't have some closure.

"I should go get my car." She laughs. "Thanks again Elaina."

"No problem. Need a ride or anything?" I asked her.

She shakes her head. "My moms on her way, let's see how that goes." Aspen rolls her eyes waving at me before she leaves.

My dad helped me put up my old punching bag in the garage to start practicing again. So thats what distracted me for a few hours until it was time to head to SouthGate. Sometimes I'd imagine myself walking in to see my mother giving orders and taking charge like she usually did. Instead I found old gross biker junkies yelling around at each other.

This is it Elaina, you can do this.

Haze seemed more focused this fight he even got a few hits in until he just stopped. His face went blank like he was thinking about some horrible memory. That's when I knocked him down and won. I felt bad at first but that's just the way it is.

I ran through the crowd grabbing my money until I felt my cheeks turn cold when my hoodie fell from my head.

Haze stood there watching me. I needed to get out of here.

"It's you?" He said almost lost for words. I held my stomach in pain from his hit moments ago. "Are you alright?" He says.

"Leave it alone Grey. I'm fine." I said pulling my hoodie over my head.

They pull my outside so we don't cause further curiousness among the thugs in here.

"Where do you live? Do you have a house?" Haze added.

I look down at the ground trying to come up with something but I shake my head in response. She didn't have a house Elaina did.

"I feel bad enough that I hit you-"

I was surprised someone like Haze would feel bad for hitting a girl considering his hostile actions of when I met him the first day of school.

I look up at him but quickly turn away so he doesn't see Elaina beyond these eyes. "Cmon."
