Cory

*Six months later*

“He looks like his daddy, I could tell you that,” my mom smiled from ear to ear as she held Alexander in her hands.

“He does, that’s his twin right there.” Alia said smiling as well.

I just sat there looking on as my mom just held him in her arms without a care in the world but half of me could think what was going on through her mind. The things that ran through her mind were the fact that she had to sit and look and me and Alia as a family not like her and my dad when they were younger. I don’t even think that my mother knew that me and my dad were on good terms.

“How were the first few nights with him?” she asked and Brenden and Zamara groaned.

“Loud as hell, babies are up at four in the morning that’s way before my wake up time which is ten.” Zamara complained making Alia burst out laughing.

“Um lets talk about you and Mr. Brenden late night troubles.” She snapped and I couldn’t help but to smile.

It was four of us still living in one house, we basically put Zamara and Brenden on parent mode because they lived with us even had shifts to watch him. Alia wanted to move somewhere bigger and more convenient for me, her and the baby. I was making decent money with the semi pro team but not enough to get our own home. Pro teams were watching but enough to even be so interested to take me and right now I needed a sign.

We heard a knock on the window and I already could make out my dads figure making my mom look at me puzzled.

“Were you expecting someone else?” she asked and I nodded my head walking over to the door and unlocking the door opening showing my dad smiling with a big bag in his hand with all cheers in his smile. Most of the time he was angry as fuck either worrying about the team or me, mostly both at the same time.

“Hey I brought some gifts for the future of football,” he said taking out the pile of clothes and toys that he brought for maybe hundreds of dollars. I wasn’t even mad that was his first ever grandchild, he was going to cherish every moment with him as much as he can, “You know grandpa got your lil Alex!” he said excitedly then finally looked up to see my mom patiently sitting there not even saying a word.

Alia cleared her throat trying to end all the tense that was going on in the room, I hated it and I knew she hated it even more than me.

“I need to talk to you outside Brenden and Cory.” He said still looking at my mom as if all of his past was coming back to him,” he just calmly walked out and sat in the porch looking at the street.

I just walked out after him and sat next to him as Brenden came shortly after.

“Well I got some good news, Cory, Brenden I don’t know if you guys are up for this but Atlanta wants you two to accompany them in their summer camp. The coach thought that this could be a small start.” He said and I couldn’t help but to smile and give a sigh of relief, I did it my future was pulling through.

I couldn’t help but to sit there shocked,

“All they need is approval of the future starts and we could start this all over.” He said and I just sat there literally blank to the whole time.

“Yeah Hell yeah, this is what I been waiting for! I got to go tell Zamara!” Brenden said excitedly running back into the house and I just sat there. My dad turned to me and snapping his fingers making me snap out of my trance.

“Hey man, what’s the lost face for?” he asked and I just looked at the street of the passing roads.

“If I make it, where does this put Alia? Constant away games, the press, the money, Alex growing up with me in and out of his life. I don’t want that you know?” I said and he looked at me then put his hand on my shoulder and sighed.

“I’m not telling you to go to football and leave your family. You are one warrior with so many supporters who trust you and know that you could do this. Even though its only been about a few months that I have known you I know one thing for sure is that you keep everything in their place, I know that you could balance family and football. Be a family man who plays pro ball, don’t go around getting caught up in the fame because you know how football is,” he explained and I nodded my head.

One injury and it could be the end of my career, I didn’t want that. I want to prove everyone wrong.

“Tell ATL I’ll be there, just know that Alia and Alex will be there too.” I smiled and he nodded my head giving me dap.

“Well I got to go, tell Alia I said hello.” He got up and walked down the porch steps into his car and drove off.

NFL here I come.

Alia

“That’s my bubbies, right Alex huh?” I cooed in Alex’s ear and he cracked a smile making me smile.

Its been rough I could guarantee that but my support system has never failed me.

I looked up at Cory and smiled, I’m thankful for him, we went through our up and down but he was still there for me mentally and physically. He was always there for me when I needed him whether he was there or not. He blessed me with a child that was so close to not making it but those two angels up there are watching over him.

I looked as Alex wide eyes looked at the ceiling and cracked a smile and I looked at ceiling puzzled.

“What you looking at baby boy?” I asked smiling kissing him on the forehead but his eyes was stuck to the ceiling.

Amy chuckled, “He sees angels honey,” I looked at Amy as if she was crazy then looked down at Alex, “You and Cory lost someone so special in  your life they come down as angels and the only one could see them is lil Alex here, just a form is showing that they are with you all the time honey.” I looked down at Alex as he had his hands up smiling at the ceiling which had me close to tears.

I got up and handed Alex to Amy, “Can you hole him just a while I just need to-”

“I understand honey, take your time.” She smiled and I walked outside to find Cory sitting there looking onto the sunset.

“Hey you missing out inside,” I said sitting by him and he looked at me and wiped the tear that somehow was on my cheek.

“Just taking in the environment before we move to Atlanta.”

I looked at him and my brow rose, Atlanta?

“ATL?”

“Yup, Atlanta wants me to participate in their summer camp.”

I literally jumped on him hugging him tightly.

“I’m so excited, I knew you could do it babe!” I said and he turned to me and held my hands.

“Are you ready for change though?” he asked and I smiled and kissed him softly on the lips.

“We did it now, I think we could do it again just with a small addition.”

He chuckled showing those pearly whites that I was attracted to in the beginning.

“Plus we got some angels who got our back the whole way, Alex confirmed it.” I smiled and he laughed.

“He already sees angels. I know his uncle must be proud.”
