3rd Person POV
She wandered through the forest, the tears on her cheek slowly streamed down her chin as she held in a sniffle. It was dark, only the moon peaking through the leaves as light as she tried to find her way back to town. A howl broke the silence, making her tighten her grip on the handle of the plastic pumpkin that was filled to the brim with teeth-rotting sweets. Her lips trembled as a new batch of tears rolled down to her cheeks. She wanted to scream but she was afraid that the wicked creatures of the night may prey on her.
He wandered out of the castle built to keep humans out, enjoying the feeling of the air rushing through his black wings. As he flew through the night, he couldn't help but notice a flash of blue and violet through the thick foliage and immediately went down to the ground to investigate. He silently turned back into his human form, hiding behind a tree.
There stood the little girl, dressed in a blue unicorn onesie with a gold and violet horn, crying as she tried to look for a way home. With one wrong move from the other party, she flinched at the sound of a branch breaking beneath his weight. She frantically looked around, trying to find the source of that sound.
"Hey little one. Are you lost?" He asked, stepping into the light.
She stared at his direction silently, fear written all over her features.
"It's okay. I won't hurt you, I promise. You can trust me."
That's when their eyes met and he swore to the heavens above once he saw a glimmer of gold appear in her eyes. The eight year-old in front of him... She was- is his zing, his other half. Not only was she human, but she was still too young. He has to protect her at all cost until the day that she comes of age. And when that time comes, he can lay his claim on her. For a vampire that had to wait over a hundred years to find his zing, ten more years was too much.
Once she saw the sincerity in his eyes, oblivious to who he is and what she means to him, she ran over to him. He knelt down to her level as she ran into his arms. She cried onto his shoulder as he slowly stood up, placing his arms on the back of her thighs to carry her.
"I'll bring you back home, okay? Just lead the way once we get out of the woods." He said, walking towards the nearest way back to town.
She merely nodded and buried her face onto the crook of his neck, not realizing the effect it had on him. On their way, she couldn't help but feel comfortable around him to the point that she started talking to him about useless things. What made her continue, despite feeling embarrassed for saying too much, is the fact that he seemed interested in what she was rambling about. Once they arrived back, she thanked him and made her way in.
He waited and watched over her from afar. At least, he tried to wait for her to grow up. But when she turned sixteen, he boldly went into her life by "accidentally" bumping into her one evening. Ever since then, they had been together but he still couldn't claim her fully for another two years.
Your POV
Tossing my bag on the floor, I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief once I jumped onto my bed, letting the soft mattress soothe my aching back. I fought the temptation to fall asleep... Well, tried to at least. I slowly opened my eyes as I felt something running through my hair.
"You fell asleep in your uniform again." He muttered.
"Hmm?" I mumbled, slowly sitting up, only to realize that my pillow was replaced by his lap. "When did you get here?"
"Just a few minutes ago."
I sighed, rubbing the tiredness out of my eyes and standing up. I took my skirt off and changed into a pair of short shorts, the pair that barely even covers your ass. Hey, it's nice to wear them for sleeping, okay? As I unbuttoned my blouse and slipped it off, I felt a pair of cold hands on either side of my waist.
"Just looking at you tempts me to claim you." I heard Shawn growl into my ear, his lips against my ear as his breath fanned my skin. "Happy birthday, love."
"Thanks, baby. Why do you keep sneaking in through my window anyway?" I asked, turning around to face him and wrapping my arms around his neck.
He shrugged and placed his lips on mine. "Because I wouldn't get caught."
"No one's home at the moment."
"Good."
He pulled even closer to him and deepened the kiss. He dragged his hand from my waist to the side of my thigh and lift my leg up to his side. I was then pushed against the wall, his lips moving down towards my neck then up my jaw to my ear. The feeling was enough to have me panting for air and maybe even get a little wet, especially when I felt his member getting harder and pressing up against my area. I slowly pulled away from his hold and slipped on an over-sized shirt, that was conveniently lying on the floor beside me, over my head. I heard him groan but I just shook my head at him, a goofy smile forming on my lips.
"You're lucky I love you and I don't want to get irritated at you on your eighteenth birthday, fucking tease." He muttered, begrudgingly.
"Love you too." I giggled, swaying my hips as I walked past him.
I plopped back down on my bed, patting the space beside me for him to sit down. He did exactly just that and pulled me over to him. My legs intertwined with his, my back against his chest, his arms around my waist... Now this is something I wouldn't mind going home to. We just stayed in that position, talking about everything and anything when his words from before suddenly sunk in.
"What did you mean by "slept in my uniform again" earlier? I don't think I've ever done that ever since I was in 6th grade." I asked, lazily running my finger along the fabric of his jeans.
I felt him tense from behind me. I turned around to face him, removing my legs from his and sitting back on my knees. He looked conflicted, as if he was debating whether or not he should tell me whatever the hell he was thinking about. He eventually gave up with his internal battle and met my eyes.
"What if I tell you that there are such things as monsters? Would you believe me?" He asked.
"Monsters? Like Frankenstein, Dracula, werewolves... All that shit?"
"Exactly what I meant."
"I mean... I would. There have been several accounts of werewolves spotted near the area throughout history as well as dead bodies, drained of blood with two puncture wounds on their necks."
He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair, something that he always does when he's nervous. He looked down on his lap and wrung his hands.
"What is this all about, Shawn?"
"I... Do you remember when you were eight? When you got lost in the woods in a unicorn onesie and holding a plastic pumpkin basket?"
"How did you-"
"There was a man that found you in the woods. You were practically frozen in fear when you saw him but then ran over into his arms as soon as you snapped out of it. What if I told you that the man... is me?"
"You're j-joking, right? If that was you, you would be in your late twenties or something but you're not... Right?"
"I'm actually in my late hundred thirties. I stopped aging at the age of twenty."
"You... You're a vampire?"
He met my eyes once again before nodding, smiling sadly. He opened his mouth wider to reveal his teeth, showing a pair of fangs that I have never noticed before. If someone else were in my place, they would've runaway with a crucifix in hand yet I was somehow calm about it, like it didn't even faze me.
"Then why haven't you killed me yet?" I let the one question that could either break me or the exact opposite, slip out of my mouth. "Didn't you stay with me because I was your prey?"
"I would never hurt you, Y/n. I wouldn't even dare think about doing so." He said, cupping my cheek with his left hand. "Most vampires would've killed you as soon as they see you. They wouldn't have waited ten years to do that."
"Then why did you?"
"Because you're my zing."
"I'm what?"
"My zing. Everyone of our kind has one. A zing is a vampire's other half, regardless of what kind. They're the ones that keep us grounded, the one to accompany us in immortality."
"I... Is that what you meant by claiming me?"
"If a vampire's zing is a human, they must turn eighteen before the other party lays their claim. And..."
"And what? How do you exactly claim someone?"
"You turn them. We have the ability to turn other people into vampires but we can only do that once, especially if, as I have said earlier, the other half is human."
"How do you turn them?"
"One bite. It's all that it takes." He muttered, looking at anywhere but my eyes. "Why are you even interested in it? I'm not going to force you into it anyway."
I took his hand, the one holding my cheek, and held it close to my heart. I moved forward so that I was right in front of him. I leaned in and placed my lips onto his. He soon responded and pulled me onto his lap, my legs wrapped around his waist. I placed both of my hands on either side of his head, trying to deepen the kiss.
"Turn me." I whispered against his lips.
"W-what?" He asked, pulling away so that he could look at me in the eyes. "You do realize what this means, right? You'll be immortal. You will have to watch your parents and friends grow old and die. I don't want to do that to you."
"My parents only care about their work, remember? That night when you found me, they were supposed to be watching me but they were too busy on their phones, talking to their colleagues about their next deadline. I've been left alone for the past years, having to take care of myself while they leave at six in the morning and go home at past ten in the evening. You're the closest thing to a family to me, Shawn. I want to do this."
"It would take a day or so."
"Lock the door, draw the blinds, and stay by me and I will be alright."
"Are you really sure?"
"One bite, right?"
"One bite."
I nodded, my eyes meeting his dark brown ones. He closed the gap between the two of us once more and flipped both of us so that I was under him. He slowly lowered his lips to my neck. He muttered a soft "I love you" before I felt pain shoot through me and then all I saw was black.
