Today is my boyfriend Ivan's birthday and I'm bouncing with excitement. I've planned a surprise birthday party for him but I need to get him out of the house before My other friends arrive to set up the party. I can't give it away that I know it's his birthday though... this is going to be hard.
My phone dins with a message and it's Alfred telling me that he's coming over with Gilbert and Mathias to set up the party so I need to get Ivan out of the house. I hear footsteps coming down the hallway and I quickly hide the cake I was decorating in the fridge.
"Hey Ivan, good morning." I giggle
"Privet podsolnukh, do you know vhat today is?" He asks happily

"Saturday, I'm so happy that the weekend is finally here." I giggle "How about we go to the winter market in the city?"
He has a face of disappointment but he tries to hide it,
"Yes, zhat sounds like fun." He says looking down
I pass him a cup of coffee and head up to our room to change. I wear a t-shirt and pants with winter boots and a warm (f/c) coat. I head back downstairs and find Ivan about to open the fridge.
"No don't open that." I say and jump in front of it
"Why?" He asks
"Because I uhh, said so. Come on let's go." I say pulling him to the front door
He is already dressed so he just puts in his big beige coat and pink scarf and we walk to the car. As we drive down the street another car passes us. I see Alfred driving while Mathias and Gilbert try to hide behind the seats.
"Is zhat Alfred?" Ivan asks me
"No looks nothing like him." I say quickly and turn the car around the corner
We drive through the snow ploughed streets and make it to the city pretty quickly. I park the car and we head in.
"Are you sure today isn't anything special?" Ivan asks
I feel like giving and saying happy birthday but I need to stay strong.
"Well it is the second to last day of the year." I reply and continue walking
After a few hours of walking around and trying to avoid the fact that it's his birthday I get a message saying everyone is there and the party is set up.
"Hey Ivan my feet are starting to hurt, we should go home." I say
He nods but looks extreme miserable.
"Is everything ok?" I ask
"Something special to me has been forgotten." He says in his Russian accent
"Oh really? Oh well I'm sure someone remembers." I say and hop into the car
We drive and when we arrive home Ivan turns to look at me.
"I vant to talk about something important." He sighs
"Well then let's talk inside." I reply, desperate for something not to go wrong
He walks after me and I pretend to drop my purse so he ends up in front of me and he opens the door. I walk behind him and the light flicks on.
"SURPRISE!" Everyone yells
Ivan's face limitedly brightens up and he smiles.
"Did you plan zhis?" Ivan asks me
I nod and his smile widens even more. He picks me up by my waist and kisses me on my lips.
"Spasibo." He whispers

We move further into the house and many people come up to with Ivan happy birthday despite looking scared of him. Feliks and Toris are making out in a corner, Mathias and Alfred are singing barbie girl while standing in a table and a small group of people are playing seven minutes in heaven.
"How about we plat seven minutes in heaven?" Ivan asks me
"But what if we don't get each other?" I ask
"Oh I'm not vorried about zhat." He chuckles and walks over to them
Elizabeta writes down our name and places them in the hat. She reaches in and grabs two slips of paper.
"Gilbert." She says reading the first slip of paper "And Matthew."
They head off to one of the closets and we hear a few bangs and crashes before Mather let's out a muffled "ow". I giggle and we wait until their turn is over. When they emerge Mathew is blushing and trying to hide his neck with his hoodie while Gilbert smirks triumphantly with his arm around Matthews shoulder,
"Ok next up is (Y/n)." Elizabeta states pulling out two more pieces of paper "And Im Yo- I-I mean Ivan."
I turn to Ivan and he has a glare aimed at Eliza but when his name is called out his expression changes to a smile.
"Vell then let's go." He says and takes e to the closet
Inside it's completely dark and kind of cold. I place my arms in front of me to feel where Ivan is and his warms arms wrap around me.
"Thank you for setting up zhis party, I really thought you forgot my birthday." He whispers
"I know." I giggle "I saw how sad you were and almost gave up."
He presses his lips to my forehead and I can feel him smile against my skin.
"Oh I have a gift for you." I say pulling out a small box from my coat
I pass t to him and he opens it. Inside there is a small sunflower pin which he can pin onto his scarf.
"I love it." He says grabbing me by my waist and kissing me on the lips
I giggle and kiss him back before the door opens and light floods the small room. As we step out America walks towards us holding a cake with three candles in the Russian colours.
"Happy birthday to you." We all begin to sing "Happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Ivan, happy birthday to you."
He blows out his candles and pauses before cutting onto the cake ad then kissing me on the forehead.
We serve the cake and Ivan and I find a quiet place to sleep.
"Ya tebya lyublyu." He says and smiles

"I love you too." I reply
"Just wait to see what I have planned for your birthday." He chuckles
"I can't wait." I state
