The music was blaring loud, making the ground beneath my feet shake with the rhythm of the song. Why I even agreed to go, I have no idea. I guess I needed a change from being the shy girl who always stays in her room every Friday night and my friends may have gotten tired of the whole "I'd rather stay at home and read a book" thing I had going on.
I pushed my way through a crowd of sexually aroused teenagers grinding against each other. Finding a better place to stay in this house may be harder than I thought. I mean, people are practically having sex– some are already doing it and some are just about to do it, some are openly making out and humping each other, and there are a lot of drunk guys either passed out somewhere or vomiting in the nearest place they could reach.
The smell of alcohol, sweat, vomit, and marijuana mixed together is disgusting. If only I could find my friends and go. I let out a deep breath as I reached the kitchen. Another thing to why I'm regretting going here, I'm claustrophobic. Being in crowds like this makes it hard for me to breathe and relax. What am I gonna do with my life?
"Y/n!" y/bff/n yelled when she saw me.
"Uh... hey y/bff/n." I said, leaning against one of the counters, trying to breathe. "Can we leave now by any chance?"
"Nope. You haven't even drank a single cup of alcohol! Stop being so uptight and have fun!"
She shoved a red cup in my hand and I just stared at it. What the hell is this? I watched as the red liquid fizzed a little as she rolled her eyes at me.
"It's cranberry vodka. I know how much you hate beer." She stated.
"You know I don't drink unless Shawn's around. He's too protective of me." I said, shoving the cup back in her hand only for her to push it back towards me.
"Drink."
I rolled my eyes and took a sip on the sweet yet slightly bitter liquid. The burn in my throat felt slightly addictive but I knew that it was wrong. I'm only 16! I'm not even old enough to drink! At least, not in public. Around my family, it's okay but people from school? Hell no. I crinkled my nose and tried to give my cup back to y/bff/n but she only gave me a blank look.
"It tastes like medicine." I said, cringing at the thought of those syrup kind of medicine that you're forced to take when you have a cold.
"Stop lying. I know you've drank this before."
I just sighed and drank the entire cup. Once it was empty, I threw it at her and rolled my eyes. I was about to leave when my other friends pulled me over to them as they formed a large group. I was awkwardly standing among them as they danced to yet another over-played song– Despacito. I just rolled my eyes and danced along with them since I didn't want to stand out.
Hours passed and a couple more drinks in, my mind felt slightly buzzed considering that I have never drank more than one bottle of alco-mix in my entire life. I know that if I stay here any longer, I will definitely get an ear-full from my brother. Disadvantage of living with your brother while you go to a school far away from your parents and sister. I walked through the crowd once again and made my way out of the front door but was stopped when I felt a hand wrap around my wrist.
I turned around to see no other that Hayes Grier. I only know him because of my brother but I've never really talked to him before. I admit, I may or may not be attracted to him, thus the reason why I try to stay away from him but I guess fate isn't on my side right now.
"Where are you going?" He asked, smiling softly at me.
"Uh... Hi Hayes. I... um... I was just about to head home. You know how Shawn is." I said, stuttering slightly although I tried to act cool.
"Want me to drive you?"
"Are you sure? I mean, didn't you drink anything?"
"Two beers, two hours ago and a Coke."
"I don't think it would be safe for you to drive."
"I'm sober, y/n!" He said, chuckling at me in amusement.
"You do know that that's what Jeff Atkins in Thirteen Reasons Why said but look at what happened to him." (Well damn. I just triggered myself xD)
"First off, that's just a show. It's not real. And second, there's no Sheri to accidentally knock down the stop sign."
I couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. He stared at me for a moment before laughing as well. He took my hand and led me to wherever he parked his car. Once we got in, he placed his hand on my right cheek before leaning in and placing his lips onto mine. Of course I kissed back. He pulled me towards him, passing over the console until I was straddling him against the driver's seat. I guess you can say that things got a bit heated up and when we were done, he drove me to my house. After one last kiss, we said goodbye as I got inside.
"Where have you been?" My brother's stern voice echoed throughout the living room as the lamp he switched on lit the darkness.
"Hey Shawn." I stuttered, not looking him in the eye.
"You didn't answer my question. Where have you been?"
"I was with my friends."
"Where exactly? It definitely can't be the park, the mall, or a cafe. I mean, it's almost three in the morning!"
"We went to a party, okay? I'm finally breaking out of my shell. It's not a big deal!"
"Not a big deal?! I come home to find out my own sister wasn't around and now you tell me you went to a party?! You could've gotten drunk and taken advantage of!" He yelled, standing up from the brown recliner.
"Well, I'm not drunk, obviously! I'm not that stupid!" I said, raising my voice at him as well.
"Well you could have been!"
"Oh my God, Shawn! You're acting as if you haven't even done that before! I mean, you would even bring random girls home at times!"
"That's not the case!"
"But it's goddamn close to it! First time I've ever gone to a party, you're already yelling at me as if I was hoeing around and fucking ever guy I see!"
He took a deep breath in, trying to keep himself calm knowing that my swearing is bringing him on the edge. You can definitely tell just by looking at him. The veins on his arm and neck are showing and if you look closely, I think you can see smoke coming out of his ears in anger. I love my brother but he's just... UGH!
"Who did you come home with?" He asked, his voice unnaturally deep.
"What?" I stuttered.
"Who brought you home, y/n?! Answer the goddamn question!"
"Hayes brought me home, so what?!"
"So what?! Do you even see the way he looks at you?! I thought I told him to stay away from you!"
"You what?! Why the fuck would you do that?! You know I like him!"
"I'm doing it to protect you! I don't want you to get hurt because of someone like him."
"I'm sixteen, Shawn! I'm not a baby anymore! You shouldn't even be controlling every single thing I do! Let me grow up!"
I couldn't hold back the tears of frustration once I yelled all of those at him. I kind of felt bad but he needed to realize that he doesn't have to baby me anymore. I breathed in deeply to calm myself down. He stared at me, hurt written all over his features as he seemed to relax slowly. He walked towards me and pulled me against his chest as he let out a sob.
"I'm sorry." He choked out. "I just... It's just that you're getting older and I didn't want that to happen. I don't want you to make the same mistakes as me but even if you do, I will love you anyway. I don't want you to not need me anymore. I know I should let go but I can't. This may be hard to believe but can't lose you. You mean too much to me. Y/n... You're my baby sister, my best friend. I don't want that to change."
"Shawn..." I sobbed into his shirt as he pulled me closer to him. "Shawn, you won't lose me. I may be growing older but that doesn't mean I will ever forget about you. I will always need you by my side. Even when I'm ninety and you're ninety-two, I will always need my brother."
"I'm sorry."
We just stayed in that position for what felt like forever. I honestly don't know what I would do without him. I'm thankful that I have the privilege of having Shawn Peter Raul Mendes as my older brother because I honestly cannot see a future without him. I would probably be dead if it weren't for him.

A/N: Now this. I'm actually pretty proud of this. If some of you do not know what alco-mix is, it's basically a drink with a little bit of alcohol in it. I actually based it off one of my favorite Tanduay Ice drinks (I barely drink but when my mom lets me, I always pick the red one). I practically spent three days writing this (not including the weekend) and it's all because I get to school before 7AM (since my cousins are still in Junior High) and I don't have any classes before 8:30AM every MWF so I made this xD Hope this isn't shit
