Austin's POV
We woke up to Ozpin announcing for Ruby to go to his office. I was working with Ghost on a new weapon at a desk.
Austin: We have a problem.
Ghost: I noticed.
Yang came and sat next to me.
Yang: What's that?
She pointed at the blueprint.
Austin: A sword. But we don't exactly have the materials for it.
Yang: What do you need? I'm sure Weiss wouldn't mind spending daddy's money to help a friend.
Weiss came towards us.
Weiss: Hey! I'm not spending a dime on him! At least till I know what you need.
Ghost: I don't suppose you know where to find Soliton Flares, do ya?
Weiss: What flares?
Austin: That's what I thought. We could infuse it with dust, but it would go through it like its out of style.
Ghost: Well. We could use fire dust to amplify the five flares that we do have. Then infuse the blade with the same duast as well.
Austin: We could do that. Worst case senario we lose the flares and we have molten metal.
Ruby came in. Everyone was curious what it was about. She explained her encounter with a masked woman during the dance.
Weiss: That was a risky move.
Austin: Ruby. You handled it well.
Ruby: I hope so.
Yang: I'm sure everything will be alright, Ruby. Oh, I know what will cheer you up!
Yang had a package in her hand. Ruby tried to grab the package but failed to grab it.
Yang: It's from home. Dad sent it.
Ruby: Ooh!
She let the package out revealing what looks like a wolf but smaller and harmless.
Ruby: Zwei!
Zwei?
Blake: He sent a dog?
Weiss: In the mail?
Austin: Isn't that a small wolf?
The girls laughed at me for that. Like I knew it was a dog. I'm sorry.
Ruby: Don't worry. He does this all the time.
Blake: Your dad or your dog?
Ghost: A rather odd way of transportation if I say so myself.
Weiss: Are you telling me that this mangy...drooling... mutt is going to wiv wif us foreva? Oh, yes he is, yes he is! Oh, isn't he adorable!
Oh for Traveller's sake. Blake was scared of it being a cat and all.
Blake: Please keep it away from my belongings.
Ghost went into my head. If Blake is like this towards dogs, what's gonna happens if she goes in heat?
Ghost: Really?
I said 'if' Ghost. Besides, I'll just find Sun and throw him at her.
Ghost: Very funny. And 'if' it fails?
I'm staying in my armor the whole tine and locking it. We heard Ms Goodwitch over the intercom.
Glynda: Would all first year students please report to the amphitheater.
Weiss: Well we can't exactly leave him her while we're gone for the whole week.
A letter drops from the package.
Yang: Hey look. A letter. Dear girls, I've got to leave the island for a few days, so I'm sending Zwei to you to take care of. Enclosed is all the food you should need. Love you both, Taiyang
Odd. I don't see the food. As I thought that, a bunch of cans dropped along with a can opener.
Yang: Well, that settles it! Come on guys, Zwei will be here when we get back.
As we walked out, Weiss acts like a child to the dog.
Weiss: Oh, I'll miss you so much, we're going to be best friends, I can't wait to see you, I can't believe how cute your are.
Everyone left to the amphitheater to see every first year student from every hunting academy there.
Glynda: Quiet please. Professor Ozpin would like to share a few words before we begin.
Ozpin gave a speech about the Great War and being united as one. It sounded like speeches Javala give.
Ozpin: s first year students, you will be tasked with shadowing a professional Huntsman or Huntress on a mission. Some of you may be taken out of the Kingdom for several days. Others may work within the walls for the rest of the week. But no matter which path you choose, remember to be safe, remember your training, and remember to do your very best.
Everyone clapped. So we're getting missions now. It's back to being a soldier again. The girls and I approached the mission board. I had no clue what they were talking about but they chose Grimm clearing and were denied the mission. Why have the mission up if you're going to deny them?
Weiss: Wonderful!
Blake: Any other ideas?
Ruby: We mail ourselves there!
Ozpin: Well, that's one option.
He appeared before us.
Ozpin: Unfortunately, we determined that the concentration of Grimm was too extreme for first-year students. It seems that particular region is rather popular. In fact, I have the sneaking suspicion that you four will make your way there no matter which job you choose.
Everyone looked at Ruby
Ruby: Whatever makes you say that?
Ozpin: I'm still curious how you all fiund youreslves at the docks last semester. I'm interested to know how you really learned about a hideout in the southeast. And I certainly wonder why witnesses reported seeing robots, roses, and a soldier at a night club not too long ago.
Ruby: Um... well...
Ozpin: I doubt I'll ever find the exact answers I'm looking for. So how about this: instead of waiting for you all to break the rules, why don't we just bend them?
He pressed some buttons and we got the mission.
Ozpin: And instead of Ruby leading the team for the mission, I would like Austin to.
Austin: What?
Ruby: Oh. Ok.We won't let you down. Thank you professor.
Are you insane old man?
Austin: No.
RWBY: What?
Ozpin: Why not? You've proven yourself to be a great leader.
Austin: I know you've seen the film. No.
Ozpin: One act of failure does not make you a terrible leader. It was clear that you've done it for years. This should be no different for you.
Austin: And what happens if one of them gets hurt or even killed? I failed a group of professionals.
Ozpin: And yet you follow a young girl like Ruby. Doing everything yourself will not help you avoid the past. You have a different team now and they trust you with their lives just as you trust them with yours.
He looks at the team.
Ozpin: As for the rest of you teamwork and persistence have carried you far. But you must understand, the things that await you beyond the protection of the Kingdom will not care. Stay close to your Huntsman at all times, and do exactly as he says. He will be leading you on this mission, and he can have you sent back to Beacon, if he finds your skills to be unsatisfactory. Good luck.
The girls packed their things as I just brought a sleeping bag. Ghost had the rest of my gear stored and I had Red Death with me. We walked out of our dorms.
Yang: That wasn't exactly uplifting.
Blake: But it's the truth.
Ruby: It's gonna to be tough, but I know we can do it!
I hope so. I knew I could do it. Simple patrol stuff, but to lead these girls into possible death. I didn't want to think about it. This Huntsman better know what he's doing. A student ran last us.
???: Hey! Team CFVY is back!
We look to see a crowd surrounding the team.
Blake: Velvet! What happened?
Velvet: Nothing.
Weiss: Your mission was supposed to end a week ago?
Velvet: There were just so many.
Aww that's assuring. Ghost. Defender. Now.
Ghost: Done.
I held out my hand to see a ball of dark energy. Thank you Ghost. They didn't seem prepared for a mission like this.
Ruby: We can do this. We've never backed down before, and we're not going to start now.
Blake: Right.
Ruby: Besides, it won't only be us out there! We'll be fighting alongside a genuine Huntsman!
Yang: Yeah!
???: Hello students.
We were stunned to be Mr. Oobleck as our huntsman. Thousand Glimmer says he set it up to where I lead everyone.
Ghost: Wouldn't doubt it.
Oobleck: Who's ready to fight for their lives?
Evidently not you.
