Kai saw that Jennie had plastered a smile on her face despite remaining silent. He did not know what she was thinking about but he merely assumed that she was avoiding the topic of Lisa. He smiled saying, "It looks like I've forgotten once again that I shouldn't always bring up the subject of Lisa."
When Jennie saw that the elevator had arrived, she said, "Let's talk while we're walking."
"My car's parked beside the road. If you're free tonight, why don't you call Lisa out so we can have a meal together?"
Kai said it in a casual manner. Since the three of them had yet to have a meal together, this was not an excessive suggestion. This was perfectly reasonable because he was Lisa's friend and also Jennie's lawyer who handled her case that year.
Jennie hesitated for a while before she quietly said, "I don't feel like eating with him."
Her expression was extremely cold. She easily resembled an aloof goddess when this dull expression appeared on her already dangerously enchanting little face.
Kai, "..."
When she saw Kai's somewhat puzzled expression, Jennie explained.
"He's very busy. Didn't you see that he had already left with his little sister Nancy?"
Kai secretly smiled. This was the first time he had heard a jealous tone escape Jennie's mouth.
"Frankly, I'd really like to understand Nancy better."
Kai was being honest.
Despite his status as her lawyer, he was also Lisa's friend. Additionally, he also harbored special affections towards Jennie.
When Nancy, who had certain close blood relationships with Somi, appeared out of the blue and lived in the Manoban Family Mansion, Kai secretly avoided her when he saw her harmless appearance after he had bailed her out just now.
After they had exited the elevator, Jennie opened her mouth and said slowly, "I was indeed the one who provided the police with the lead on Nancy this time!"
Kai was not surprised. He nodded and said, "Many of her actions were certainly suspicious. Could it be that Lisa hasn't realized?"
"I'm unsure whether he knows or not but you've seen today's situation as well. Lisa is protecting her. The incident that happened three years ago... You know about that too..."
Jennie was faintly choking back sobs as she spoke. She wholly swallowed back some of the words that were about to escape her mouth while a teardrop lingered at the corner of her eye...
Kai knew that her heart was troubled.
Lisa had not come forward to defend her at the first instance when that incident occurred three years ago, making the matter a thorn in her heart.
"Jennie, perhaps this is a painful topic in Lisa's heart..."
"Yes, it's definitely a painful topic to him!" Jennie could not bear to hear other people making excuses for Lisa. She continued, "I was the one who deserved all of this!"
Jennie was finally unable to hold herself back anymore as she spoke. The gentle woman sobbed quietly, her stifled feelings that lasted the entire afternoon now turned into troubled tears.
Kai panicked and took some tissue paper out from his pocket and gave it to her so that she could wipe her tears.
His tone was somewhat impatient when he comforted her, saying, "I empathize the trouble that you went through and the pain that you suffered at that time..."
Kai who was usually an eloquent and well-known first-rate lawyer had suddenly become slow-witted and inarticulate now.
Fortunately, Jennie was not one of those frail women who would purposely trouble other people. After crying for a short while, she realized that she had lost control of her emotions. She embarrassingly wiped her tears away and sobbed, "My heart was filled with unhappiness for a long time but there was no one whom I could speak to. When I saw you today, I thought of you like my older brother because I've always felt that we were close. Thus, I could not stop myself from crying..."
When Kai heard her say that she felt close to him, a warm feeling spread throughout the depths of his heart for some time. He had always thought that he could become the warm male rival by a stroke of luck but he had only discovered now that he was always playing the role of her older brother instead...
Kai bitterly smiled for a while. However, what was going through his mind?
"You can think of me as your older brother since Hanbin isn't here with you!" Kai spoke sincerely. He never had any intentions of stealing someone else's lover. It was already good enough that he could stand in for the role of her older brother. However, he could no longer fall back on that role once Hanbin had returned...
As he spoke, Kai took the last towelette in his hand and passed it to her, saying, "Hurry up and clean your pretty little face. Don't let other people think that I bullied you!"
Jennie stopped crying and smiled as she took the towelette. She could not help but blankly stare when she unconsciously glanced in the direction of her own car from the corner of her eye.
Lisa's signature Koenigsegg sports car was parked right next to her own car...
Lisa alighted from the sports car and strode over with his long legs. His posture was carefree and unrestrained, it was obvious that he had been waiting for a long time. However, rage in the depths of his eyes could not be concealed.
"The Mistress is finally willing to come out!"
Lisa's tone was low and his voice was magnificent. Meanwhile, his expression was filled with coldness while the smile on the corners of his lips did not lack any hints of mocking.
He had waited in the car for her for more than an hour while she enthusiastically chatted to a man with evil intentions at the exit of the elevator. Moreover, had she also been pitifully crying while telling the other party about her various troubles?
Had he treated her so badly?
Kai fixed his gaze on Lisa and wondered how this little boy could act like a terribly pretentious prick. He did not care for his wife but took great pains for a woman who mysteriously appeared. Could it be that he could not see how much Little Nini's heart was suffering? Why was he acting like this?
Jennie clearly had not thought that Lisa had not meant it as a casual remark when he said that he would wait for her in the car park. This man had really waited for her in the underground parking area. More importantly, he had not contacted or pestered her although she had only come out more than an hour later...
"You really didn't leave..." Jennie's face heated up as she felt especially embarrassed.
"I wouldn't have seen Mistress' beautiful tear-stained face if I'd left, right? Hmph!"
As he spoke, Lisa's large hands had already pulled Jennie into his embrace, making the overtone of his declaration of dominance extremely clear.
"That's right, I previously told you to call Jennie 'sister-in-law' if you ran into her. Say it once for me to hear." These words were directed at Kai.
Lisa was completely serious when he said this and did not seem like he was joking at all.
Jennie was left speechless by what she had heard.
Kai's head unconsciously ached.
It seemed as though this man truly had an infinite number of issues when it came to women.
Kai cast a glance at him. His voice was filled with contempt when he said, "Hmph! You may be f*cking crazy but I won't be a part of this madness!"
It would be really awkward for Kai to say this in front of Jennie. Nonetheless, he had already secretly cursed Lisa in his heart several hundred times.
"Is the great lawyer Kai too embarrassed to say it?" Lisa's voice was filled with malice when he gleefully said, "Whether or not you call her that, her status as your sister-in-law remains."
Hmph, he wanted to stand in for her brother?
That was impossible!
When Kai heard that Lisa was clearly jealous, he faintly laughed and said, "I can tell that Third Young Master Manoban's mind is still completely sober because he hasn't drunk any alcohol!"
When he saw that Lisa's expression had remained unchanged but was now steady and natural instead, Kai coldly continued, "Thus, please remember that Miss Kim is your true wife whom married into your prestigious family. The other miscellaneous individuals and insignificant people shouldn't even be compared to Mrs Manoban despite moving back to live with the Manoban Family. It'd be better for you to waste less of your efforts on them!"
As he spoke, Kai strode away like a proud peacock, leaving the back of his head for Lisa to look at.
Jennie's mind was completely perplexed. She was at a loss with how to deal with the two men's extremely childish behavior.
Lisa loosened his tight grip on her slender waist when he saw that Kai had left. When he saw Jennie's gaze drifting about while a cold and indifferent expression remained on her face as she continued to ignore him, the man's own expression slightly darkened.
He unhappily said, "Have you not finished reflecting yet, Mrs Manoban?"
He took long strides towards his car as he spoke..
