Jennie was not someone who was very sentimental and she had seen many separations and death.
In the past when she was studying abroad in the UK, she secretly went to the middle east war zone with her friends before graduation. She saw many refugees dying ruthlessly in the camp and was able to remain calm while facing death. Thus, she became a volunteer out of compassion and kindness.
Even so, when she saw the patients at the in-patient ward today, she could not control the uneasiness in her heart.
It felt like she knew everything but was not able to stop it...
Most of the victims were patients who later on recovered from mental illness. Thus, the credibility of their testimonies was very low and will not have any legal effects.
As the representative of the police, Chaeyoung came to comfort the victim's families and to understand the situation. While she was at it, she could also find out if there were any more clues to be discovered.
There were two to three people living in each bed-ward. Chaeyoung and Jennie paid a visit to all the rooms and the last room that they visited was a big ward. The hospital was very crowded and there were a total of six patients in this room.
"It's too cruel. He was fine and was about to be discharged, but now he needs to be hospitalized again..."
The old lady at the bedside close to the door was looking at her husband with tears running down her face.
"Previously, she went there because of Zong He's hardware conditions, but now it turned out to be a poisoning case!"
The two men by the bed next to it were looking at their unconscious daughter furiously.
Chaeyoung comforted, "Rest assured, everyone. The police are now involved in the investigation and will soon give everyone an answer!"
The family members of the victims heard Chaeyoung's words and started sighing. Since it had happened already, they felt very helpless.
"Grandma, the surveillance camera shows that you went to Zong He to visit your husband in the past few days. Is there anything unusual that you can still remember?" Chaeyoung took out the record book and asked the old lady by the door.
Most of the family members have gone to the police station to make a verbal report and Huai assigned Chaeyoung to track a few key targets.
The old lady wiped her tears and thought, she had already said everything that she knew. Her husband wanted to leave the hospital in the past few days and she did try to convince him. Therefore, she seemed to be recalling any unusual incident that happened during that period of time.
Jennie saw this, quickly took out her phone and showed the old lady a picture, "Grandma, have you seen this girl going to Zong He?"
The old lady looked at the picture on the phone and her eyes lighted up as though she recalled something, "Yes, I've seen this girl. She went to Zong He two days before the incident. It seems like her mother lives there. She went to visit her mother and argued with her!"
Jennie thought that this was an unexpected reward, so she looked at Chaeyoung in the eyes. Although Chaeyoung did not know Nancy, she became extremely alerted after this sudden unexpected situation.
"Argued? "Did you hear what they said?" Jennie quickly asked.
The old lady looked a little confused. Older people usually forget about the things that happened, so she had to put in more effort to recall the scene when being asked suddenly, "If I can recall, her mother wanted to leave the hospital. Then, she told her mother that she will pick her up after it is done. That woman was not willing to and she pulled on the sleeves of her daughter's clothes while crying..."
"Her daughter was extremely disgusted and her tone was unbearably fierce. I found it weird at that time too! How can a daughter treat her own mother like that? So, it left a deep impression in my mind!"
Jennie felt as though her heart was jumping out of her throat.
Could this incident be the thing that Nancy said?
If she was really the one who ordered Yanni to poison the
hospital, why would Yanni herself be poisoned?
"Chaeng, when did the surveillance camera break down?"
Jennie suddenly turned around and asked Chaeyoung.
"On the 26th of March. Grandma, do you remember on which day did you see this girl?" Chaeyoung pointed at Jennie's phone.
The old lady lowered her head to think and went through her own phone. Then, she suddenly said in a low voice, "It's the 26th of March!
"The day that I went, I took a picture of my old man and sent it to my son who is abroad. It is recorded here!"
Chaeyoung took the old lady's phone and looked at the time stated on the system record of the picture. It was indeed on that day!
The incident happened on the night of the 27th of March!
Jennie's entire body felt very uncomfortable.
It seemed like she was one step closer to the truth and she was feeling gloomier.
Chaeyoung dragged Jennie along and left. Then, she asked when they arrived at the parking area, "Who is this girl? "Why did you suspect her?"
Jennie smiled bitterly as it was a long story to tell. She really did feel a little puzzled when she was asked about Nancy's status.
"Chaeng , can I not say?"
Jennie had a cold look on her face and she was a little resistant. Then, she sat on the driver's seat wearily.
As a policewoman, Chaeyoung was naturally very sensitive. She had a persistent look on her face and she convinced her in a low voice, "Jen, you can't hide something in this situation. This case caused a few people to die already. Even if you're not a policewoman, you are obliged to assist in solving this case and fight for justice!"
She pulled out Jennie's car key. Then, this overly charming woman looked at Jennie with her blazing eyes!
Jennie had no choice. All she could do was shut her eyes and thought for a moment, "If I have to say, then I'll need to start from Luo Hai's old case from two to three years ago...
Jennie initially did not want her colleagues to know about her past, but now that the story had played out like this, she can no longer hide it from Chaeyoung. Thus, she had no choice but to tell Chaeyoung about her past bit by bit.
Chaeyoung did not expect Jennie to have been through so
much. Especially when she heard about what happened in prison, it was tragic beyond compare. It was hard to imagine how a weak woman like her lived through those days.
Towards the end, when Jennie was talking about Nancy,
she might as well tell Chaeyoung about what she found recently.
Since she could not share it when Lisa, she needed someone to help her analyze the situation.
After listening to Jennie's story, Chaeyoung pondered for a moment. Her delicate features seemed even more distinct and she suddenly said to Jennie, "Nancy is indeed very suspicious! "But we need evidence to prove it.
"The current situation does not seem hopeful. If you did not meet that old lady today, we will not have any clues in the direction of our investigation. More importantly, we wouldn't have thought about this woman."
"Even if we found a suspect, it is very difficult to find evidence!"
"Firstly, the surveillance camera is broken. The internet was hacked from outside and there isn't any direct evidence to prove that it is related to this woman. Secondly, the old lady only heard the mother and daughter of the Mcdonie clan argue. She wasn't sure if they were talking about poisoning the hospital, this is is just our speculation. Even if she did it, it is likely that she might not be the mastermind behind it. Thirdly, and the most important point, her motive! There must be a motive for every case!
"What kind of deep grudge does this woman have with this patient for her to make such a crazy move?"
Jennie could not answer to Chaeyoung's series of analysis. It was true, what was her motive? Could it be that the person behind Nancy had a grudge with a mental illness recovering patient in the nursing home?
The two women were filled with doubts but they could not figure anything out. Thus, all they could do was return to the police station.
Chaeyoung reported to Huai about the situation in the hospital and did not mention the part about Jennie. She said that it was the old lady who thought of the suspect. Huai heard what she said, picked up his phone and dialed a number.
Half an hour later, Kai rushed to the major crimes department.. When he entered the door, he saw Huai with a solemn look on his face and he hastily asked, "Brother, you said that this case is related to the members of the Manoban Family?"
