"hey mom wheres Jonah?" your daughter asks you
you and Jonah have been married for about a year and before you guys got together you had a daughter with your ex-husband
your daughter hasn't called him Dad yet and both you and Jonah are waiting for the day she does
"he's in his office, I think he has a meeting why?"
"I want to interview him"
"why do you want to interview him and why can't you interview me? is it a class project?"
"it's not a class project and I can't interview you cause it's a personal thing for him"
"what are you going to be asking?"
"it's a surprise you can't know"
"hmm okay well again he's in his office. go knock and see if he's there"
she walks away and goes over to Jonahs office
she knocks and Jonah tells her to go in
when she goes in she sits at a chair near him
"hey y/d/n, what's up?"
"Can I interview you for a class thing"
"sure. umm, I have a meeting in an hour so is it going to be a long interview?"
"no just a few questions"
"okay ask them... just wondering is your mom home? I haven't seen her in a bit"
"yeah she's home I don't know what she's doing though. anyways can I start"
"of course"
"so the first question is what's your full name?"
"Jonah Marais"
"Okay, and how do you know me?"
"your mom is my wife so you're my step-daughter"
"how long have we known each other for?"
"hmm I started dating your mom four years ago and she didn't introduce me to you until the first year of dating so three years"
"what do we call each other?"
"well you call me Jonah and I call you your name is that what you mean?"
"kind of but like when telling someone about me what do you say"
"if I never met them before I say you're my daughter but if I know them and they're just meeting you I call you my step-daughter."
"okay next question- do you like having me in your life?"
"I do. you and your mom are very special to me"
"mhm. so I'm almost done but do you wish I called you something other than Jonah?"
"I mean I would love it if you called me dad but I understand if it's weird to call me that seeing as you still talk to your biological one"
"I see... do you like my biological dad?"
"that's hard to say. I have to like him in a way because he gave me you and your mom by ending things. but I can't say I like him THAT much because I know how he treated you and your mom and that really bothers me. I don't want to talk badly about him to you because I know you still see hi-"
"don't worry I don't like him either. I only see him because I legally have to. so I have my last question"
"what is it?"
"can I start calling you dad?" she asks with a smile and Jonah's mouth opens wide in shock
"YES! I-i mean yeah sure I don- you know what no I can't control my excitement YES YOU CAN!" he runs over to her and gives her a big hug
"let's go tell your mom!" he excitedly says and runs out of the room
he runs over to you and hugs you as well
"Woah babe chill," you say jumping
"i-i can't! guess what just happened!"
"what?"
your daughter walks over to you guys and hands you a piece of paper
"read the whole thing," your daughter says
you read it and smile by the end
"aw this is so cute"
"isn't it exciting!"
"it is... so y/d/n what made you want to do this?"
"you guys have been together for a while and it's clear he's not going anywhere so I figured I might as well"
"well, I'm glad. now come on group hug!"
you pull them both to you in a hug and when it's over you kiss both of their cheeks
"Now we're a real family!"
