"Momma where are you going?" your 3 year old son asks you as you're getting ready
you and your ex husband got divorced a year ago and while he was ready to move on immediately you weren't
but now you're ready and tonight you're going a date with a cute boy named Jonah
you guys met at the store and he asked you out immediately
you weren't with your son at the time so he doesn't know about him at all
you're not sure about how he'll react when he finds out but if he's angry then forget about him
you always tell your son no matter what you'll always have him so that's all that matters

you finished getting ready and now you're just waiting for your friend Tate to come and watch your son

your friend finally gets to your house and you can leave

"of course, you need a new man plus i never lose the chance to hang out with my favorite little boy"
"that's me!" your son runs off the couch and into her arms

"okay well you guys are busy so i'm going to go. if you need anything at all call me. and baby if you want me at all i'll always answer okay"

you kiss his cheek and leave

you've been on the date for a while and it's going really good
you guys have a great conversation and it seems as he may end up asking you out
however you suddenly get a call from Tate
you answer immediately because she never calls you unexpectedly, only texts
"i'm sorry i really have to answer"

you answer the phone and she's in a panic
"omg y/n i'm so sorry y/s/n he-he fell down the stairs"

"i'm so sorry i just called the ambulance we're going to the hospital i'm so sorry don't be mad at me"

"i'll figure something out" you hang up the phone and sigh

"oh well you don't know this but i have a son and i had to get a babysitter obviously and well he fell down the stairs and is in the hospital"

"how about i go with you to the hospital"

"wait y-you had a date and i ruined it" he pouts crying

he smiles softly and you nod at your son

you walk over to Jonah and tell him your son wants to meet him
"of course i will" he walks over to your sons hospital bed and smiles

"mhm. i hurt my foot on the stairs tonight and ruined you and my mommy's date. i'm sorry about that please don't be mad at her"
"why would i be mad at her"
"cause she had to leave you for me and now you won't like her or be my daddy. and i need a new daddy my other one hurt me and my momma"

he whispers something to your son and your son smiles

he nods and walks up to you
"well he likes me and well i need to ask you something"

"well would you like to go out with me. i liked you before i met your son and i like you even more now."

"that's a surprise normally boys hate me after they meet him"
"that's not me. your son is so cute and i'd love to be there for you and him"
