Tangled up in You

Sure, they were a few...looks. And it wasn't because of the bright colours on their faces obviously. There were other people in the store too, it was quite a popular choice around this parts. Even though it was the middle of the week, it was quite full. Some people glanced up, but went right back down. Good choice.

A couple looked up from their business and stared at them for a good while, looking at their clasped hands with disdain. Russia glared right back at him, burning through their being with every lick of flame on the sun, until they cowered away and tried to concentrated on their own dresses.

He gripped onto his lover's hand tighter, speeding up to walk closer to him and sweeping through the store for anyone each that might dare come challenge him. Germany glanced at him through the corner of his eye, and stared stiffly at the ground as they walked, an uncomfortable look growing on his face. Russia sighed and squeezed his hand, getting a light squeeze back.

Two young ladies crossed their path, walking arm in arm and smiling happily at each other. They were talking quietly, but their eyes looked at each other with a special sparkle hidden inside. The two stranger couples caught eye contact and stopped in their tracks, looking almost surprisingly at each other.

Then one of the girls began to smile softly, and she nudged her partner. The other girl looked at them, and smiled too. They gave them a small wave, and continued walking on their way, giving them a glance of support and chatting again. Germany looked at him with surprise in his eyes. Russia rubbed his thumb over the top of his hand, and smiled encouragingly at him. Germany gave him a small smile back, feeling stronger.

They reached the shelf with the dress of Germany's interest, and he reached out to touch it gently. The fabric ran through his fingers, and it shimmered in the light.

"Wow...this one's nice." He said softly, taking it off the clothes rack and holding it by the hanger in both hands. Russia looked at the yellow dress, it was long, almost ballroom styled with a somewhat poofy bottom after a slim waist hugging top. A cream ribbon ran at the bottom of the skirt. "If you want, just put it in the basket. We have all day to look and try all of them out." Russia said, taking a basket from a shelf that was labelled to be for holding clothes.

Germany smiled excitedly, and gently set the dress in, letting Russia carry the basket while he continued searching. His eyes lit up again, and he grasped his free hand and walked eagerly to the next rack.

Russia grinned, letting the smaller country pull him along to look at a white backless dress. They had all the time in the world.

"Don't peek!" Germany whined as he unbuttoned his shirt, tugging vainly at the stubborn curtain that refused to pull back all the way to obscure him fully from Russia's view. Russia smirked and wolf whistled at Germany's exposed chest, getting a empty hanger thrown at his face for helping. Jeez.

He relaxed into the plush chair that was available in their changing room, they had selected a big one that offered more privacy from judgemental eyes,  with a outside space for friends or company to wait for the tryer to get dressed in the closed off booth. Tapping his fingers as he waited for Germany to get the first dress on, he saw himself in a full body mirror at the opposite wall. White dress shirt under his deep blue jacket, which Germany had allowed him to keep if he ironed it( he begrudgingly did so) and black loose pants. And the damned dressed shoes.

If he had a black tux on instead of the jacket, he would have looked ready to walk down the aisle with his beloved already. They had agreed on that, since it was also a German custom, and neither had anyone to 'give them away'. The wedding would be mostly informal, with the ceremony in a large church that was welcomed to all their fellow countries and the after-ceremony party held in a countryside penthouse which was lent generously by Canada.
