EXT. BEACH – DAY
They all stand side by side in the water wearing bathing suits, floaties, and life jackets, staring at the ocean.
TRISTEN
You don't have to do this.
SAVANNAH
If I do this one thing, it'll give me the courage to face all of my fears.
FLYNN
Please, God, don't let her drown.
ABRAM
Here it comes.
They hold hands. A wave rushes in and blasts them. Savannah's gasping, but she's okay. They cheer for her.
SAVANNAH
That's good enough for me.
She scurries back to the beach where their things are. Flynn, Abram and Torie stay out and play in the water. Tristen follows Savannah back to shore. He sits with her.
SAVANNAH
That was exhilarating. I'm so glad I decided not to go to school.
TRISTEN
Savannah, I'm--
SAVANNAH
You don't have to keep apologizing. I know you never meant to hurt me. You've been so supportive. I shouldn't have cut you off for the one thing you did wrong.
TRISTEN
So what you're saying is, I'm no longer unfriended.
SAVANNAH
I never unfriended you. You were just blocked.
TRISTEN
That sounds worse, actually.
He looks at her phone. Picks it up and holds it out to her.
TRISTEN (CONT'D)
It's the moment of truth. You might as well get it out of the way.
Savannah takes it. Braces herself. Checks her messages.
SAVANNAH
I got in!
TRISTEN
What did I tell you?
SAVANNAH
We have to celebrate. I can't wait until you meet some of my friends from my old school. We're going to have a blast on campus.
There's something on Tristen's mind.
TRISTEN
I'm not going to UCLA.
SAVANNAH
What happened to your scholarship?
