EXT. PARKING LOT/ ABRAM'S CAR – DAY
Abram is lounging in the backseat of his car writing in a notebook. There's a knock on his window. It's Jeff and Nikki. He rolls it down manually.
JEFF
We've decided that we're going on a musical adventure.
NIKKI
A magical quest, if you may.
ABRAM
The mystery is agonizing.
JEFF
(tentative)We want to enter the talent show.
ABRAM
You're joking. (re: their expressions) You're serious.
JEFF
Why not? This could be good for us.
NIKKI
You're always talking about getting our music out there. Building a fanbase. This is our in.
ABRAM
Our high school is a bandwagon of trendy robots whose only source of music is the Billboard Top 100. They won't get it, and we are not selling out.
JEFF
Don't look at it as selling out. See it as exposing the masses to an alternative side of the rainbow. Plus side, the winner gets one thousand dollars.
He hands him a flyer. Abram reads it over. "Cash prize: $1,000."
INT. HISTORY CLASS – DAY
Mr. Edwards is writing on the chalkboard when Abram walks in holding the flyer.
MR. EDWARDS
You're early for once. Too early. This isn't fifth period.
ABRAM
I missed you so much, I couldn't constrain myself. Also...
Holds up the flyer.
ABRAM (CONT'D)
Is the bank legit?
MR. EDWARDS
So, legit that it's from my own account.
ABRAM
That's a lot of money for a teacher's salary. Side hustling?
MR. EDWARDS
Something like that.
ABRAM
Why would you just give that much money away? Is there some sketchy fine print in invisible ink?
MR. EDWARDS
Contrary to your belief, Abram, some teachers want to see their students succeed in life. From my experience, sometimes all it takes is the right incentive.
ABRAM
Then I shouldn't feel so bad taking your money.
MR. EDWARDS
Not so fast. You want to sign up, I need an audition tape. Send me a video, and I'll get back to you. I'm guessing your friends have phones.
INT. HALLWAY – DAY
Flynn is controlling a small drone down the hall wearing a VR headset. Abram leaves the classroom just as it whirrs past him. Flynn quickly lands the drone. Runs over taking off his headset and picks up his toy.
FLYNN
Sorry. Not really the safest place for a test run.
ABRAM
Did you make that?
FLYNN
Yeah. It's a lot less complicated than it looks. You could give it a try if you want.
ABRAM
Actually, we might be able to put it to good use. You up for the job, captain?
