INT. JEFF'S GARAGE – DAY
Flynn plays strong opening chords on his synthesizer. Loops them. Plays a melody on top of the chords. Loops them. Adds drums. Jams out. Jeff and Nikki are actually enjoying it. Abram sees this. Not a good sign. Flynn goes all out, fingers gliding up and down the keys until he closes with a solid chord. He bashfully looks up at them.
FLYNN
Sorry. I got carried away.
ABRAM
Cute. But it's a hard no.
NIKKI
It was bizarre...but I'm kind of into it.
JEFF
Yeah, I mean it's new. It's fresh.
ABRAM
We're not letting a space invader hijack our band.
NIKKI
Why not? Because it's different. Ab, we can't stay in our little magic box forever. This is our chance to redefine ourselves.
She glances over at Jeff.
NIKKI (CONT'D)
We've been talking and we think it's time to switch things up a little.
ABRAM
So now all of a sudden everyone's unsatisfied with our band.
JEFF
That's not what we're saying.
ABRAM
Then why are we having this discussion? Flynn's out. End of story.
FLYNN
How about, if we win the talent show, you guys can keep all the money.
ABRAM
You were never getting any of the money.
NIKKI
It's not just up to you. This is our band too.
JEFF
We care about our music just as much as you do. We just want it to feel exciting again. We want to explore different paths. Should we vote on it?
Raises his hand. Nikki raises her hand. Flynn slowly raises his hand. Abram takes this in, feeling betrayed. Walks out and gets into his car. As he reverses out of the parking lot, Jeff, Nikki, and Flynn watch him drive away.
