Try Again (A Scripted Series)-Part One

INT. HISTORY CLASS – DAY

The room is silent. Torie and Tristen sit front row side by side. Abram sits behind Torie. Flynn sits on the other side of the room. Savannah sits in the very back.

MR. JOHN EDWARDS (early 20's, stylish, been-there-done-that) stands before them holding the tests.

MR. EDWARDS

First things first, there will be no mobile devices allowed while you are taking your test.

He picks up a box from his desk.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

Everything in the box.

He carries it around the room, handing out tests once the devices are out of their possession. Torie expects it, quietly obliges. Tristen relinquishes his phone shaking his head. Flynn drops in his phone.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

That means everything. Including your tablet.

Flynn hands over the tablet.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

And your laptop.

Flynn waits. Is he serious? He's very serious. He pulls his laptop out of his bag and places it in the box. Mr. Edwards moves onto to Savannah and finally Abram. Abram just sits there.

MR. EDWARD

Your phone, Abram.

ABRAM

I can't afford one, sir.

Mr. Edward waits it out, calling his bluff. Abram holds his stare. Mr. Edward relents, gives him the test.

TRISTEN

So you believe him? Just like that?

ABRAM

Are you calling me a liar?

Tristen turns to respond.

MR. EDWARDS

That's enough. As a reminder, this test makes up thirty percent of your grade. No talking and keep your eyes on your own paper. Any questions?

Abram raises his hand.

MR. EDWARDS (CONT'D)

Any questions about the test?

Abram smirks and keeps his hand up.

MR. EDWARDS

Yes, Abram?

ABRAM

If I'm already failing the class, I don't see the point in retaking the test. Sounds counterproductive.

MR. EDWARDS

It's entirely up to you, Abram. But since you're here, I thought you might care enough to try. You may begin.

As packets fly open, Mr. Edwards takes the box of contraband and locks it in a storage cabinet at the front of the room. Tristen glances at it, suddenly uncomfortable.
