INT. HISTORY CLASS – DAY
The students are packing up their things and leaving. Mr. Edward stands at the front of the room.
MR. EDWARDS
Don't forgot. This stuff's going to be on the final. You need to be prepared.
Abram and Jeff are on their way out the door.
MR. EDWARDS
Abram, a word please?
JEFF
Do you ever stay out of trouble?
He leaves.
ABRAM
I'm a hundred percent positive it wasn't me...Ninty-five percent.
MR. EDWARDS
Surprisingly, this has nothing to do with your behavioral issues. I want to talk about your grades.
ABRAM
Also not an auspicious conversation I take?
MR. EDWARDS
That depends. Your last test brought you up to a D, but if you don't get at least a C on your final exam you're going to fail my class.
ABRAM
What you're saying is you have no confidence in my performance. See you next year?
MR. EDWARDS
I'm offering you a deal.
ABRAM
What does this entail exactly?
MR. EDWARDS
The Senior Festival needs volunteers and you need extra credit. You see where this is going?
ABRAM
You want me to do charity work for my own selfish gain. Don't you think that's undercutting the purpose of a good deed? You're not being a very good example.
MR. EDWARDS
Well, it's either that or the very real possibility that you won't graduate. It's been a treat teaching you, really, but one rounds good enough for me.
ABRAM
Couldn't you just give me a last minute project on one of those obscure historical events you love so much?
MR. EDWARDS
I could, but this is so much more fun for me.
INT.TRACK FIELD – DAY
Tristen and Vance are running laps in their P.E. uniforms.
VANCE
What's the deal with Savannah? Does she seem hostile to you?
TRISTEN
Savannah? Nah. She's just a good judge of character. I could probably learn a lot from her.
VANCE
Funny. Girls usually love my sense of humor. I can barely even get her to smile.
TRISTEN
Maybe she's not into guys who are unapologetically full of themselves.
VANCE
Then I guess I have to change up my approach.
TRISTEN
Give it a rest, man. There's no way Savannah's falling for you.
VANCE
All right. Let's make this interesting. We'll bet on it.
TRISTEN
You're not getting me caught up in this.
VANCE
Come on. It's all in good fun. I bet I could get Savannah to go to Prom with me.
Tristen scoffs. Looks at him.
TRISTEN
You're being serious, right now?
VANCE
Winner gets bragging rights. Loser has to ride the bus to Prom.
TRISTEN
You're sick. I'm not doing this with you.
VANCE
Why? Because you know I'll win.
TRISTEN
Because it's messed up. You're messed up.
VANCE
Hey, this is all on you.
He spins around and jogs backward.
VANCE (CONT'D)
Never underestimate the man.
