ACT TWO
INT. HALLWAY – DAY
Savannah walks down the hall, dragging her hand across the lockers causing the various locks to bang against the metal. Tristen walks beside her.
TRISTEN
I really appreciate you helping me out.
SAVANNAH
It's no big deal.
TRISTEN
It's a pretty big deal to me. But I guess you wouldn't know that. Your first year, right?
SAVANNAH
Yeah.
TRISTEN
Where'd you used to go?
SAVANNAH
Not too far away.
TRISTEN
That has to be frustrating. Your parents couldn't wait half a year for you to graduate.
SAVANNAH
It's complicated. This is our stop.
INT. ART CLASS – DAY
They enter the empty classroom. Savannah heads for the sculpting tools beside a table full of colorful ceramics. Mrs. Baschier comes out of the back room.
MRS. BASCHIER
Sorry, Savannah. I haven't been able to grade your project, yet.
SAVANNAH
Oh, no rush.
Savannah picks up her sculpture: A sprawling ceramic tree painted in the style of Leonid Afremov.
TRISTEN
You made that? It's pretty cool.
SAVANNAH
Thanks. Mrs. Baschier, I lost the key to my locker. Could I borrow one of your tools?
Mrs. Baschier pulls out a Swiss Army Knife.
MRS. BASCHIER(CONT'D)
Let me give you a hand. Which way?
Tristen and Savannah lock eyes. What now? Savannah leads the way.
INT. HALLWAY/SAVANNAH'S LOCKER – DAY
Mrs. Baschier picks the lock until it clicks opens.
MRS. BASCHIER
All set.
SAVANNAH
Thanks.
She hesitates then opens her locker. It's empty.
SAVANNAH (CONT'D)
Sorry. I keep getting the halls mixed up. Could I borrow that?
MRS. BASCHIER
As long as I get it back at the end of the day.
SAVANNAH
Of course.
Mrs. Baschier hands over the knife and walks off. Tristen eyes Savannah for answers.
SAVANNAH (CONT'D)
I don't like lockers.
Heads back to class.
