Chapter 23

"Its been two months Austin." I groaned walking into the kitchen in what was considered my new house
"And you still look beautiful." He smiled setting down a ham sandwich
"This has gone on long enough please just let me go home. I am almost five months pregnant and I want Luca to be there for this all." I sighed pushing the plate away
"Stop with the whole Luca thing. Hes dead. You saw the pictures. Now eat. The doctor told me you are under weight for how pregnant you are." He said pushing the sandwich back
"Fuck you Austin." I said pushing it off the counter and on to the floor
"That is no way to talk to your husband." He said stalking towards me
"Your not my husband and never will be. Do it. I dare you." I challenged him before his hand connected with my left cheek
"Thats what I thought." I said before stomping away back to my room

"Carrie I am sorry. Please forgive me I didnt mean to hit you." He pleaded at the door
"Go to hell." I said playing with the window trying to find a way to open it
"Luca is dead. Its time to move on and be with me again. You know we have true love. I took your virginity no one can ever replace that." He said making me groan before stopping what I was doing and opening the door
"Im going to bed Austin. Im tired." I said before he pushed the door open
"Please just eat though." He said with a plate of mash potatoes and grilled chicken
"Fine." I said taking the plate and slowly eating in front of him
"I am so sorry Carrie. I promise to be a better husband. I just cant control my anger sometimes around you." He said apologizing for the third time that week after hitting me
"Its ok Austin. I just need another night by myself." I said as he nodded and left me alone

All of the talking is in Italian until further notice
Finally after knowing he was asleep in his room I locked my door and went back to the window finally getting it open. "Idiot" I mumbled to myself knowing he never had a security system in place as I got out the window and touched the ground underneath it.
I walked around the neighborhood finally getting to a main road to walk towards some type of store. Thirty minutes later I was in front of a police station.
"Hello I need to get to the Italy embassy." I said in Italian confusing them as they spoke to me in Russian
"I dont understand. I need to get to home to Italy. I lost my passport." I said again before being motioned to wait
"You only speak Italian?" A man asked and I nodded
"Yes I lost my passport and need to get back home. Im almost five months pregnant and my husband wants me back home but with my pregnancy brain I lost it." I said bringing on the fake tears
"Alright I will take you there. Its about a mile up the road and I cant have you walking alone." He said as I nodded and followed him to his car
"Where are you from in Italy?" He asked
"A small town outside of Rome." I smiled thinking back to the vineyard we own in Torre Paterno that looks over the ocean
"Thats nice. Here we are be safe." He said as I got out and saw my way home

"Hi I am Carrie Derosa. I need to get to Italy now." I demanded seeing the young girl at the front desk    
"Hold on." She said timidly before calling for someone
"Mrs. Derosa?" A guy asked and I nodded following him
"Mr. Derosa will be excited that you are going to be back home." He said as I just nodded and kept following him
"Stay right here. I will get you some water and a phone to call him." He said and I nodded wanting to cry knowing he was still alive
"I will be outside the door." He said giving me the phone and water
Please pick up I repeated over and over again until he did
Back in English for talking
"Luca Derosa." He demanded
"Its me." I said crying at his voice
"Carrie?" He asked confused
"Yes babe its me. Im safe and the baby is safe. We are at the embassy. Waiting to go back to Rome." I said one I calmed down
"I will be there tomorrow at the airport to bring you home." He said as I heard rushed movements in the background
"I love you." I said hearing him pause and say it back before we hung up
"I have a plane ready for you Mrs. Derosa. Once I get the pilot you will leave and get back to Mr. Derosa. He gave us strict orders to send you there as soon as possible." He said in Italian as I nodded
"He promised you money right?" I asked and he nodded
"I get extra protection right?" I asked wanting to know I will be safe
"Yes. You are traveling to the airport in a helicopter provided by him to avoid any issues on the ground. That is ready to take off once your pilot gets here." He said as I nodded and sat further into my chair
"He almost destroyed this room when he came to visit." He said
"I expected as much." I laughed knowing him
"He was hoping you would come here and not to the US embassy. He can pay us off like the family always does with government officials but not the US." He said sitting with me
"I figured as much." I laughed taking a sip of water
"Pilot is here. Lets get you home to him. I will be accompanying you as well as two of your father in laws men from Italy. They have been here as long as you have to be your guards." He said as I nodded seeing the familiar faces of Nico and Alec
"Carrie." They both said before giving me a hug
"You look pregnant." Nico laughed as we got on to the helicopter to go to the airport to finally see Luca again
