Sometimes, I see things for more or less than what they really are. Sometimes, I'm convinced that I see more than what is there, that I make mountains out of the smallest anthills, the same anthills that I used to 'blow up' with water when I was young.

That's why, when I saw her, and knew there was something about her, that I tried to deny it. I saw her, and she was a redhead. And I thought, 'That's interesting. She's the first redheaded girl I've seen in this school.' It made me wonder, and then it made me study her.

First, I saw her dress style, the Fall Out Boy jacket that she always wears. Then, I saw her eyes. They were a faded green, but there were flecks of other colors dancing in her eyes, and I think I instinctively knew that her eyes changed colors.

"This is Jordan," Ayla said to me. I looked up, and all I could think was, 'I cannot piss this one off.' She looked like, well, simply put, a badass. But I could tell something else about her, too.

At first, I thought I was imagining it. But when I looked closer, I saw that when people looked away, when she thought no one was looking, her face fell. The smile became fake, practiced, and I couldn't help but wonder.

And then, that was the moment.

The moment that I realized.

I looked at  her, and I could all but see her tattered wings.

My broken angel.
