Alec: Clary, you've known Magnus well enough right?

Clary: Yeah, why?

Alec: I need your help.

Clary: Let me guess, you want to give him a Valentine's Day present?

Alec: How did you-?

Clary: Jace told me about it.

Alec: After I told him to not say anything, great.

Clary: Don't worry, he was the only one I told, and cross my heart I won't spoil anything.

Alec: Thank you, now can you please tell me what Magnus likes?

Clary: Knowing him, he loves glitter.

Alec: Duh.

Librarian: SHH!

Clary grabbed my hand, and pulled me to the other side of the library.

Clary: Before we get into anything, what are you going to do?

Alec: It's kind of a...

No backing out now I guess...

Alec: I need you to keep this a secret, okay?

Clary: Okay.

Alec: Look...I want to...Iwanttoproposetohim.

After a long, awkward silence Clary spoke up.

Clary: Alec...you're joking right?

I tried to give her an answer, but with the look on my face she knew I was serious.

Clary: Wait, but why? You guys are still in high school, and-

Alec: I don't know if you know this, but one of Idris' guards is here and he took a mother and brother from a home. I feel like my father is getting close, and he's going to figure out where we are.

Clary: What does this have to do with-?

Alec: I never told Magnus this, but...ever since I was born I was engaged to Princess Lydia Branwell. I never met her at all, and I don't want to marry her but I'm forced to.

Clary: Say no more, I think I know what you want to do.

Alec: Do you?

Clary: Yup, you want to marry Magnus not only because you love him but because you want to avoid getting married to Princess what's-her-name.

Alec: Lydia.

Clary: Yeah, sure, whatever.

Alec: Will you please help me?

Clary: I will, but if you're going to want him to say yes you have to explain everything to him.

Alec: I know.

Clary: Alright.
