i'm alive. sorry for not updating in forever i've just been dealing with a lot. but here's a short shitty chapter that might make you cry or make you wanna kill me but whateves

"I can't see them, do you see them? Libby said they were by the water fountain but they are most definitely not by the water fountain." My mother said, pointing accusingly at the sterling silver water fountain next to us while frantically searching the crowded airport. "Maybe they're at a different water fountain." I suggested. Not that I minded the small delay of our reunion. "Where do you see another water fountain? I don't see another water fountain."

Rolling my eyes, I scanned the crowd and spotted a head of curly black hair pointing out above the others. I felt my body tense as his head turned in either direction, presumably looking for my mother and I. He hadn't seen me yet and with that I sighed with relief. "Isn't that Cameron? Hey! Cameron! Over here!" In a second, my mother's arms were in the air waving back and forth, making her resemble a windmill.

And that's when it happened.

That's when I looked into the eyes of the boy who broke my heart. His chocolately brown eyes looked the same but they didn't have the same warmth and happiness that they did a few months ago. Instead, they felt cold and empty. "Caroline!" Libby shouted with glee, running towards my mother with open arms. "Libby! How nice it is to see you again!" I stepped back as I watched the pair of old friends catch up and welcome each other, and I couldn't help the grin that made its way onto my face.

"Elena.." A voice called, breaking me out of my trance. The voice sent shivers down my spine, enough to make me want to run and hide in my room to forever ignore his existence. I met his gaze with hard eyes, putting up a façade to hide how much he still effects me. "Cameron. You look well." My curtness took him by surprise as his face contorted into a mix of confusion and hurt. I assume he wanted me to act just as hurt and upset as I was a few months ago so he could openly know that I was still hung up on him.

"Thanks. So do you." He recovered quickly, but I could still tell that my initial response took him aback. "Elena!" The higher voice caught my attention as I spun around to face Maya who jumped in my arms. "I've missed you!" She said into my hair. "I missed you too kid." I laughed, placing her back on the ground. "Elena, nice to see you again." Victor smiled, placing a hand on Maya's shoulder. "Oh, Elena. Honey, I've missed you so much." Libby said, engulfing me in a hug before I had time to respond. "I missed you too, seriously."

"Now that we're all caught up, let's get your bags into the car!"

Life fucking sucks.

That's what I learned on the ride back home. I was squished in between a sleeping Maya and a very uncomfortable Cameron. Our car had broken down halfway to my house and the three adults walked a mile down the road to see if they could get help, leaving Cameron and myself all alone in the empty car.

"I'm not going to feed you anymore excuses," Cameron's voice sounded throughout the car and I rolled my eyes. "I don't have a legit reason for what I did, and that's the truth. She played mind games with me and I was the fool that walked right into her trap. She never even apologized." He scoffed, mostly to himself.

"I don't want to talk about it anymore, Cameron. I'm so tired of overthinking and offering excuses on your part. I don't want to think about it anymore. It's slowly draining the life out of me and I can't afford that. You're here for two weeks and then you're back in California. The chance of us seeing each other again is slim. Let's just be civil and get these two weeks over with."

"We're back!" My mother called, climbing into the car. "And not a moment too soon." I muttered.

We eventually pulled up to the house and I practically dove out of the car. "I'll be in my room." I huffed before running to unlock the front door. I could sense Cameron's eyes on me the whole time and I couldn't escape his stare fast enough.

The rest of the day rolled by pretty quickly. When I wasn't held up in my room watching Netflix, Cameron and I avoided contact completely. If anyone noticed anything weird they didn't mention it. Everyone seemed to be pretty oblivious to the tension surrounding them.

"Elena?" A soft voice sounded from my door. "Hey Maya. What's up?" I moved over on my bed and patted the seat next to me, signaling for her to sit. "You've been in your room all day. We've hardly had a chance to hang out."

"I know, kid. I'm sorry. I'm just about to start a movie. You wanna stay and watch with me?" The younger girl smiled and nodded her head, getting comfortable in her seat beside me. "I missed you," She said sadly. "I'm sorry my brother drove you away."

Those seven words caused my body to go ridgid. They held so much meaning yet she said them with ease as if we were discussing the weather. I could feel my heart clench in my chest, the feelings I've been pushing down rising to the surface. The amount of emotions running through my mind was slowly driving me to the brink of insanity. Pushing those thoughts out of my head, I opened my mouth to respond.

"I'm sorry too."
