Freddie Frog and Timmy Toad left Greenfield in December to visit
relatives in Swampland. They are due back in Greenfield town court on
Jan. 9, because they had been charged with croaking too loudly in the
middle of the night, keeping the citizens of Greenfield awake.
The citizens had to work early mornings in the Greenfield Computerized
Contraptions factory. Greenfield Computerized Contraptions was
concerned, as the Greenfield city government was known to pass stern
laws with harsh penalties. Tho they wanted their employees to sleep
well, but the tech industry, already wary of government surveillance,
rushed to rally behind Apple & Cherry Pies R Us a local industry
(just called "Apple" by the citizens of Greenfield), that depended
upon the citizens being kept up late at night, so they'd raid their
kitchens, and eat pie. They were joined by a dozen other tech firms
(who also depended upon the citizens being awake late at night) when
it filed a legal brief supporting Apple's position in March.
In the neighboring town of Bentonville, the city government was in
firm control. Each home in Bentonville was on a smartmeter, police
were told whenever citizens were awake or sleep, or if they were
eating enough pie. Greenfield hoped to never become like Bentonville.
