"Mr. Dun?" Isabella walks through the door. All three of us jump up, Jenna immediately holding my hand tightly. My breathing catches in my throat, and Tyler and Jenna drag me closer to Isabella. Isabella runs her hands over her face, and smiles at us softly.
"How did it go?" Tyler asks, his voice cracking softly. If it wasn't Abby-Lynn in there, I would've laughed at how awkward he sounded. Isabella looks at all three of us, and gives a quick exhale.
"There were some complications a-"
"What do you mean complications?!" Jenna interrupts, panic evident on her face. I can feel all of the blood rush out of my face, and everything in my body wants me to run and find Abby, but Jenna's hand is keeping me in place. I can feel the panic start to build up in my chest, and I'm pretty sure it looks like I'm about to pass out. Isabella holds up her hand, instantly knowing she had started it off wrong.
"Please let me finish. Some complications, BUT she is ok. Heart surgery is always tricky, so we ran into some problems, but we got the tumor off and she is now resting." Relief washes over me and air enters my lungs again. "BUT, because of the complications, she has to be careful for the next couple of weeks, ok? This includes not traveling for a bit so I can still do a weekly check up on her until she is healed."
Not traveling for a bit? This means she can't go on tour for a while? What am I going to do, what is she going to do? I barely survived these last couple of weeks without her, and healing takes a long time. If she can't be there, the nightmares will take over.
"Can't we find a way to have her join us?" Tyler ask, immediately noticing my dread. He rubs the back of his neck, something he does when he thinks hard. "Like get a Doctor for the road? Or you come on the road with us? Anything?"
"Hmm... maybe we can find a doctor that would travel to you for the weekly check up. I'll ask around, see what some of them say, ok?" Tyler nods, excited at the possibility of hope.
"Can we see her?" My voice cracks, and comes out quietly. Isabella eyes soften when they meet mine, and she nods.
"Only one at a time though." Tyler and Jenna nod at me, stepping away from me so I can follow Isabella to my girl.

Walking into the room, my heart clenches at the sight of Abby-Lynn attached to what seems like a million machines. Her skin is so pale right now, and I can see the gauze sticking out from the top of her hospital gown. When I finally reach her side, I sit in the chair next to the bed, my hand immediately grabbing hers. Even though she is asleep, my first instinct is to instantly comfort her.
"My brave Abby." I whisper, not wanting to disturb the silence in the room. She looks so fragile, yet so strong and I spend a long time just sitting there thinking about how she is a perfect mixture of the two. She is small, and looks easily breakable, so I always feel a need to protect her, but the world knows I don't need to. She is strong enough to protect herself. She's so powerful, walks through most of life with no fear, but when fear looks down at her, she just needs a little push for her strength to ride again.
Shaking myself out of the thoughts, I notice that I've been self consciously rubbing my thumb against her knuckles. And on her face is now a soft smile, as if even though in deep slumber, she knows I'm still here.
"I love you." I still speak softly, leaning my head down to kiss her forehead. Her skin is slightly warm, but as soft as ever. "I can't wait to take you home in a couple of days. Tyler and I get a few days off from tour, so I am going to dedicate my time to taking care of you. Which will mostly just mean making sure you don't overwork yourself like you always do."
I chuckle and shake my head, slightly embarrassed by talking to my sleeping fiancée. Leaning back into the chair, I start to trace patterns onto her hand. Looking out the window on the far wall, I smile as I watch the snow fall outside.
Valentine's Day is coming soon, 15 days away. I already have the whole day planned for Abby-Lynn and I. I can't wait to surprise her with it all. From then it's roughly 3 months until our wedding. Abby picked out date as May 21st. Her reasoning was because it would be a full moon that night, and she wants a dance while everyone glows underneath the moonlight.
I smile as I remember how happy she looked when she told me why she chose that date. She beamed, prouder than ever. Recalling the image, I let out a small sigh. Looking away from the window and back at the sleeping Abby, I brush some of her hair back behind her ear.
"Let's hope that this surgery fixed everything."
