“Hello,” I say having no idea who it can be.

I don’t use my phone much.

“Hey Natasha,” Trent says on the other line.

                I smile, “Hey,”

                “Where are you?” he asks.

I scrunch up my face in confusion, “What do you mean?”

“Tryouts are starting in half an hour,” he replies like I’m completely clueless.

“Shit!” I yell into the phone as I turn around and start running, “I’ll be there as soon as I can,” I tell him before I hang up and drop the phone into my pocket.

My hands pump at my sides as I run down the endless blocks. If I keep at a good pace I’ll make it in time. After a while I slow down knowing I don’t need to go as fast as I’m going- there’s also the fact that if I keep running like a mad woman I’m going to be too tired to actually participate in the tryouts.

What seems like ages later my phone rings again.

                Slightly panting I answer it.

                “You almost here?” Trent asks.

“I’m five minutes away,” I answer.

                “Good,” he replies.

                “Trent?” I ask.

                “Uh-huh,”

“I’m the only girl trying out right?” I question wincing slightly.

He laughs, “Of course not, it is the girls’ soccer team,”

I burst out laughing at his words, “Trent, I’m trying out for the guys’ team,” I inform him.

He scoffs, “What? Trust me these guys are really good…” he trails off.

I feel my blood start to boil. Instead of starting an argument I decide to be the better person.

“We’ll see,” I say before clamping my phone shut and hurrying up.

I’m making sure I’m there on time now.

“Run around the field four times. You have 7 minutes and 30 seconds to do it. Whoever fails to complete this will be immediately cut off the team,”

I take a deep breath as I prepare to make my body run once again. Then, I line up with the other guys. I get strange looks. Trent doesn’t even acknowledge my presence. I roll my eyes.

“I thought you were the sibling of one of these players, what are you doing here?” coach asks.

I chuckle, “Trying out,” I reply confidently.

“This is the guy’s league,” the coach tells me with his eyebrow raised.

I sigh dramatically as the boys around me snicker.
