Marnie - Blind Date

[Name] could gaze into her eyes for hours. The lighting above them and the candle on the table made the color flicker. They constantly switched between green and blue, sometimes combining into a teal color. [Name] couldn't decide which he liked most. All. All of them he decided.

Marnie played with a piece of her hair. For her, this wasn't exactly a blind date. She had seen [Name] before and was enamored with him. She had seen him with Nessa a few times when she and Piers went to visit the gym. She had tried asking Piers about him, but he didn't know anything. And then Piers talked to Nessa.

Marnie remembers the phone call she got from Nessa the next day telling her about her younger brother, but not everything. Because in her words, "You'll find out more on your date with him next Friday!" Marnie knew about this date, but [Name] didn't.

"So, how is it being the new Spikemuth gym leader?" [Name] asked, taking a sip of his water. Marnie shrugged, "It doesn't feel real yet. 'Spose it won't until the next championship comes around we get challengers." [Name] nodded and leaned on one of his hands. "Makes sense, excited?" "A bit nervous, but I have time to train and get used to it." She gave him a small smile, and his heart thumped wildly.

[Name] cleared his throat, "Gotta admit, I probably know a bit more about you then you do me." He admitted awkwardly. 'Doubtful' Marnie thought, but let him continue. "I was always rooting for you during the last championship. I even saw you after you beat Nessa, but I guess your fan club didn't want me anywhere near you." He laughed. Marnie made a mental note to interrogate 'Team Yell'. "Sorry about that...I know they were pretty rowdy during that time...caused their fair bit of trouble." Marnie wanted to hide her face, but [Name] waved his hand dismissively.

"Nah, I think it's great how much they support you." He grinned. Marnie could feel her cheeks heat up. She grabbed a menu and opened it to distract herself. [Name] did the same, perusing over the choices. Nessa had lent him enough money that the two of them could probably order everything here.

"Are you a trainer?" Marnie asked. "Not particularly. I've got a few partner pokémon, but I didn't really have any interest in the championship." He answered, gazing at her from over his menu. "What do you do then?" She cocked an eyebrow. "Well, I just finished my training and got my certification to be an underwater welder." Marnie's jaw almost dropped. That was a difficult and dangerous job. "That's impressive." She smiled.

[Name] smiled back, he took pride in his work, and it was really good money. "Thanks, it can be dangerous, but that's why I keep my pokémon with me. They look out for me just as much as I do for them. Golduck especially." "Good, I'd hate it if something happened to you..." Marnie confessed, then realized what she said. Both of their faces turned red.

"Are you two ready to order?" The waitress came by, smiling at the two of them. "Yes!" They answered in unison, placing their orders.

"Piers, did you have to bring them?" Nessa asked, clearly irritated. Piers and Nessa were crouching down behind the bar at The Captain's Table, along with two Team Yell grunts. Piers sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, "They insisted, but I made them swear to keep quiet." He mumbled. Nessa looked over at the two grunts as both of them mimed zipping their lips closed.

The bartender looked down at them nervously. Nessa glared at him, "You keep quiet about this, or you can forget about payment." She hissed. The bartender stiffened and went back to continuously drying an already clean glass.

Nessa peered over the bar briefly to see [Name] and Marnie still smiling and talking. "What's happening?" Piers asked, looking up as well, his giant ponytail peeking out a lot. "They're just talking, I think they ordered." "He's gonna pay right?" Piers glanced at the model. Nessa sent a glare his way as well, "Of course he is! My little brother is a gentleman!....Plus I gave him more than enough money to pay for their food..." Nessa muttered that last part.
