Lance x GN Reader

"Nidoqueen use ice beam!" "Quick! Dodge!" But it was too late. Nidoqueen's ice beam hit the Dragonite directly and knocked it out.  "Dragonite is unable to battle, ___ and their team win!" The referee of the match announced. Lance gripped at his hair in annoyance as you cheered and ran up to your Nidoqueen, hugging her. "That was great Nidoqueen!" You smiled at Lance who was returning his Pokémon to its ball. "Looks like I'm still champion Lance!" "Yea yea, but you can't keep winning forever with Nidoqueen. I still have the type advantage for the rest of your team." He huffed. True enough, you were a ground type specialist with a team consisting of your ace Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Sandslash, Dugtrio, Marowak, and Rhydon. "Maybe, but I was able to beat Lorelai with the same team, it's called strategy!" "I think that was called having a Nidoqueen that knows Superpower!" You two continued to argue in this fashion while the rest of the Indigo League elite four watched on. "When do you think they'll just kiss already?" Lorelai asked. "Those two? That would never happen!" Bruno exclaimed while Agatha laughed beside him, "You kids keep me young, I'm sure it will happen in their own time." "I'm just going to go train!" Lance finally yelled stomping toward the rest of the elite four. You laughed before turning back to your Nidoqueen, "You did so good! I'm so proud of you and everyone else!" you nuzzled your face against your Nidoqueen's who looked very happy about this interaction. Lance glanced at you from the corner of his eye, a slight blush on his cheek, and everyone but you noticed it and were smirking at him. "Lance? Training?" Lorelai asked, snapping Lance out of his stupor and making his blush worse.

A few days later, you were sitting outside with Lorelai, talking about some important things. "You're thinking about leaving!?" She exclaimed and you had to quickly shush her. "Lor!" "Ok I'm sorry, but why are you thinking about that?" You sighed. "Look being the champion of Kanto is great and all, but I want to explore another region, fight trainers there. Maybe try raising another type of Pokémon." "I mean it's great to expand, but what about the champion status here?" "Well, I could always purposely lose to the next challenger." Lorelai gave you a 'are you kidding me?' look. "We both know that would be disrespectful to your challengers, your Pokémon, and even to us. You started to think. "Well, what if one of you guys took the spot? You're all very strong" "Then who?" The red-headed dragon tamer was the first to come to mind and you smiled. "Lance? He's really strong, and I know he wants it." Lorelai nodded. "He would be a great choice, but I'm not sure if he'd accept just being gifted the title. Besides," she smirked at you, "I thought you didn't get along with Lance?" Your cheeks took on a light shade of pink. "To be honest, I don't hate Lance, not one bit. I actually really admire him and his ambition...I love how he treats his Pokémon and the cute look of concentration on his face gets when he's battling. He's passionate and strong, I really love that about him."  "You really like him don't you?" You nodded, "I do." "But if you left that would mean leaving him behind." Again, you nodded, albeit more sadly this time. "Yes, but I want to grow as a trainer. And I'd comeback to visit...and if Lance is champion, at least I'd know where to find him. But you're right, he would never except it if I just gave it to him and I'd want to have one last battle with him , one where neither of us holds back. So I have an idea, but I'll need your help."

Word of your leaving spread quickly throughout Kanto and many people wondered who would take your place. Unsurprisingly, Lance heard about it immediately and was going through a myriad of feelings: sadness, anger, nervousness, and all other kids. He was excited about the prospect of a new champion, especially if he could snag that position. He was angry because you were leaving, and he was upset, because you were leaving. Who was he going to have battles with now? Argue with? Well fine, if you were leaving , he wads going to take that champion title from you!

Lance slammed the doors open to your champion battle ground, surprising you and your team, who were all out for their food. "Lance? What's up?" "What's up!? WHAT'S UP!? You're really asking me that!? You're leaving so I came to challenge you for the title of champion!" You looked between him and your team. "Ok sure.  But I'm not holding back, not sure if I can let you be the champion if you're not strong enough." You got the exact response you were hoping for. Lance's face got red and a vein protruded from his forehead as he stepped closer  so your noses were almost touching. Your cheeks heated up, but you held your ground. "Let's go."

Once again, it was down to your Nidoqueen and Lance's Dragonite. And this time there were tv reporters filming your mach. After all, this could be your last battle as champion. "Ice beam!" "hyper beam!' You both yelled out and the beams of energy slammed into each other. It was as if everyone at the match and watching at home held their breaths as the match continued.  Your face softened into a smile as you said something that only your Nidoqueen could hear. Nidoqueen's ice beam was being overtaken by the hyper beam, until it eventually won out, and the hyper beam hit your Nidoqueen, sending her flying back and knocking her unconscious. You ran toward her quickly with Lance watching, concern in her eyes. You cradled her head, "It's ok Nidoqueen, you did your best. Take a nice long rest." You returned her to her ball, and everything was quiet. After a moment you stood up and smiled wide at Lance. "Nidoqueen is unable to battle, which means Lance is the winner and the new Indigo League champion!" Lance returned his Dragonite to its ball and met you in the middle. You held your hand out, "Congrats Lance, all your training worked! You're gonna be a great champion!" "___.." Lance replied, gripping your hand tightly. "Good luck wherever you go ___ ..you'll be missed." You stared at him, tears starting to well up in your eyes and you pulled Lance into a tight hug. After a moment of shock, Lance returned the hug. "You're gonna visit right?" "Of course" "Group hug!" You both heard Lorelai exclaim behind you, and suddenly three more bodies joined the hug.

The battle was all over tv for weeks, and the group hug with everyone was now being sold as souvenir photos.   Lance has officially taken the reign as champion and Kog has been invited to take his spot in the elite four. Now it was your turn to move on and you were in Vermillion City with your friends before you board the St Ann.   "You guys will take care of them right?" You asked the elite four, referring to your Pokémon. Bruno nodded, "They'll be safe with us, awaiting your return ___!"  You hugged each of them goodbye before they walked off, except for Lance. "Well, you're gonna do great Lance, I can't wait to come challenge you with a new team." "Are you going for another type?"  "Well I thought I'd give dragon types a try in Alola. see what all the fuss is about." You smiled, nudging him. He smiled, "Then I have a gift for you."   He reached into his cloak and pulled out a poke-egg. "You stared at it wild-eyed before taking it.  "Wow Lance, is it a Dratini then?" "You'll just have to wait and find out. Guess you'll definitely have to come home to show me your dragon team." "I would come back to see you regardless of my team." You both blushed, and you took the initiative and stepped closer, moving close enough to place your lips softly on his. Lance was quick to pull you close and return the kiss. After a few moments, you both pulled way and Lance pressed his forehead against yours. "Call me when you get there ok? And don't let anyone beat you before I do." "Wouldn't dream of it." You smiled and kissed him again.

Off in the background, Lorelai was whispering excitedly with Agatha and Bruno. "See? It all worked out!"

 "See? It all worked out!"
