Ancient Art

28 9 14

We traveled with friends to the sea

And talked until the moon was high

The next day I gave her a shell

When we had to say goodbye

We had a picnic by the pond

Where I said it would be swell

To be a carefree, pretty swan

(But only if she was as well)

I bought her a small metal ankh

From the large museum store

I hoped that she would understand

But then I found it in a drawer

On our first anniversary

She bought me an advanced robot

While I gave her a red bracelet

With a Celtic triune knot

I tossed her an apple when

She was hungry in the park

Still she was quite silent as

The sky above grew slowly dark

She broke up with me that night

And cruelly tore my heart apart

She claimed all the love I had

Was reserved for ancient art

So I sit underneath the stars

Wishing I had made her see

That though I could not say the words

She was Eurydice for me
